We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Flitton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process really came down to knowing what I do best and wanting to build a business that actually supports my values and the way I like to work. I have a clear design voice and a strategic approach, and I realized the only way to really lean into that was to do it on my own terms. It was about aligning my passion with the freedom to create something meaningful and sustainable—shaping the client experience, offering the right mix of services, and making the whole process feel elevated, organized, and genuinely enjoyable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an interior designer creating residential and commercial spaces that feel elevated, timeless, and stylish. What sets me apart is that I approach every project through my design eye while keeping each client’s unique lifestyle front and center, looking for ways to make spaces feel personal, functional, and one-of-a-kind. I focus as much on the experience as the final reveal, making the process seamless, clear, and enjoyable.

Every space comes with its own challenges, and my goal is to guide clients through them so the result feels effortless, tailored, and exactly right for them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A Fun, Design-Lover’s Itinerary in Phoenix + Scottsdale

Boutique-Hopping + Design Treasure Hunt
Start the day wandering through some of my favorite spots for home accessories. Begin at Found in Arcadia for curated pieces and beautifully layered vignettes. Then pop over to Willows Fine Goods for that perfect blend of classic and collected. From there, spend the afternoon exploring Old Town Scottsdale—the mix of boutiques, art, and unexpected finds always makes it feel like a mini design adventure. Wrap it up with a chic lunch or dinner at Francine in Fashion Square—always a vibe.

The Reset Day: Spa Heaven
For a more relaxing day, head to one of the incredible local spas. The Boulders Spa feels like a desert retreat tucked away from reality, while Camelback Spa gives you that luxe, resort-style pampering. Either choice is chef’s kiss for a reset.

Adventure + Brunch Perfect Pairing
Start with a morning hike—Butcher Jones Trail if you want lakeside views or Peralta Canyon for classic desert scenery and bigger adventure energy. Afterward, head straight to my favorite brunch spot, Liberty Market in Downtown Gilbert. The food, the people-watching, the small-town-meets-cool vibe… it’s the perfect reward after a good hike.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been lucky in my 15-plus-year career to have a lot of mentors, but the ones who’ve had the biggest impact on me are the people who took the leap before I did. The ones who left the stability of a traditional 9–5 and chose to build something of their own. Their example—seeing them navigate both the freedom and the challenges of entrepreneurial life—gave me the confidence to do the same. Their courage and honesty made a huge difference, and I definitely owe a lot of my journey to them
