We had the good fortune of connecting with Joya Courtney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joya, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
It’s easier now to concentrate on myself and my business along with my son in tandem, because my son is not a little baby who needs me every waking moment. Don’t get me wrong, my son is my everything, however, now that he’s older and more self-sufficient, when he’s at school, I can work, when he’s with friends, I can work, or carve out time for myself. I can have Sundays as a family day and the option to switch up my weekends however I please between my business, my me-time, and my son, so it makes it easier for me to have a healthy balance, while being able to provide focused attention to each.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well, DLC stands for dedication, longevity and commitment. I have a long-standing reputation of holding true to those as values, versus just using them as tag words.

I’ve always had a connection with people, and a knack for being able to connect those people with opportunities or like-minded individuals that can help them. Many of my projects have laid the foundations for quite a few successful artists and community developments alike. I credit this in great deal as to how I got where I am business-wise today. Was it easy? Not always, I had to learn to overcome and adapt to technology changes considering how old my business is, but other than this, it’s been smooth sailing.

The biggest lesson I learned is that, unfortunately, you can’t please everyone. You can please almost everyone business wise, but not everyone. This was difficult for a perfectionist like myself to accept.

I want the world to know that dedication, longevity and commitment are more than just words to us. We pride ourselves in our dedication to the cause, longevity to the community and commitment to our values. We are a social media team that truly cares about the person, and not just them succeeding.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week-long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Coming from California myself, without a doubt, one of the first things we would do is go to a USC/ASU game to get our competitive streaks flowing, tailgate and people watch the night away.

Follow that up with a little shopping, window or real, at Tempe Marketplace, with sushi at my favorite local spot, Kabuki and finally grab some sweets from the Sugar Bowl in old town Scottsdale.

And of course, when in Arizona, one can’t miss the Grand Canyon. That’s definitely on the itinerary as a day trip. Another nice day trip is to head up to Sedona, for a change of scenery and a hike (chasing waterfalls.)

Depending on the time of the year, and with me being the horse fan I am, going tubing down the Salt River and watching the wild horses in their natural habitat is a great way to wind down a trip.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I had to name one thing or person, because there have been many, that would be impossible. That being said, there are definitely some key players in my story.

My family and friends have supported me in all of my endeavors. They have cheered me on with every step I have taken, and without them, it would have been quite impossible to make some of the big moves I have within my career. I have mentors who have become family, those who have never let me fall too far, without reminding me of how strong it is to rise back up. I do give a lot of credit to my RadioSupa family, then last but not least, the late brilliant artist Thaahum, (Christian Abrokwah,) who was instrumental for us in so many ways.
