Meet Jeff Scrabeck | Co-Founder and COO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Scrabeck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, what do you attribute your success to?
The main key to the success of our business DIZPOT was realizing early on that establishing, maintaining, and instilling core values consistent to the beliefs of the organization to guide and develop a strong culture would be paramount to building a successful business.

The first core value we established at DIZPOT is “Old School Service”. It is so important to us that my Co-Founder and business partner, John Hartsell tattooed it on his forearm. To us “Old School Service” means viewing what some would call a problem, we consider a challenge to be solved. When there’s an issue, we address it head on with solutions.

A perfect example is earlier this year a container ship was hit by a Tsunami and almost 2000 containers ended up on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. An extreme rarity in the world of sea shipping. Turns out we had a 40’ container full of several of our clients custom branded packaging onboard. Rather than panic our customers, we immediately contacted our office in Shenzhen to begin remaking our clients packaging and provide realistic timelines for expedited shipping. We then contacted our customers with real data to move their products by air as needed or a secondary shipping container based on their unique needs.

There are always unexpected challenges in business. Taking an “Old School Service” approach to these challenges, combined with our second core value of “No Hesitation”, defines and demonstrates an organization’s values. In this case values that we live on a daily basis helped us turn an unfortunate situation into an organizational win.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At DIZPOT we have created an extremely collaborative environment. We are not a believer in walls. Our office space consists of two large bullpens, with a shared office for myself and John. We continuously manage several hundred unique projects which require touch and cooperation from all our departments.

This helped form our second and third core values, “No Hesitation” and “The Golden Rule”. Everyone knows the “Golden Rule”. At DIZPOT it means everyone gets to the finish line every day. When a project or task is on someone’s desk, we don’t hesitate to complete the task to not inhibit their co-worker’s success. This has led to an incredible team first environment, which John and I both feel is a key to our success.

Nothing is easy when it comes to growing a business from two guys and a computer operating in 800 square feet to 35 employees in 15,000 square feet. I could write a book on the challenges we have faced. We approach our challenges as just that, an opportunity to improve and grow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
After my friends arrive in Phoenix around lunchtime, we would visit La Pinata immediately for Arizona’s best Mexican cuisine. Once we polished off a couple Cadillac margaritas and a plate of carnitas, our sights would be set on an afternoon of fun on the tees at Top Golf. Whilst pounding balls and tipping back beers, we would check out several venues for live music in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Likely finding a show at the Van Buren or Crescent Ballroom, we might pre-game at the Cornish Pasty for a tasty meal and cocktail.

The next morning, our group would head over to Moon Valley Country Club for a round of golf and lunch afterwards. In the afternoon, we’d relax around the pool checking the amazing view of Piestewa Peak from my backyard watching NBA pre-game on ESPN while we await the start time for the Suns game, as we will soon be heading to the Footprint Center. Since that was our last night in town, the next morning, we’d stop in at Matt’s Big Breakfast on the way to the airport to drop off my friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
While I’ve had many great influences and mentors in my life and business career, I would not be where I am without the love, support, and understanding of my wife of 33 years, Carrie. Not only has she been the backbone of our family while raising two wonderful and successful children, but she also allowed me to pursue entrepreneurial ventures with the trust and faith that I would make proper decisions and build something impactful.

Our entrepreneurial adventure really began in 2003 when we decided to uproot our children, aged 9 and 12, and move from Seattle to pursue a cannabis related distribution opportunity with a business associate of mine in Phoenix. Carrie left her successful salon business, leaving her siblings and family in the Northwest to pursue our new life. It wasn’t long before I moved on from my initial opportunity to build a distribution company of my own. We all know having a young family creates the need for quality health care and other benefits. To provide this support while growing a business, Carrie joined Starbucks as a barista, and for many years provided our family the security that was necessary to pursue my dreams.

These steppingstones that we traveled through the years provided me the experience, knowledge and confidence to leap into a new adventure 5 years ago…DIZPOT.

Carrie doesn’t deserve a little credit; she deserves most of the credit. I would not have had the freedom, confidence and security to accomplish what we are accomplishing together without her complete support.
