We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh & Abby Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh & Abby, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Real Estate itself is a very risky business to be in. Doing Realty full time means we have no other income, no work benefits, and no safety net. We have to be successful, it’s the only option. It is scary, but it’s also highly motivating. There are over 60,000 realtors in Arizona so there’s plenty of competition as well. But we’ve both seen high risks yield fantastic rewards in our own personal lives. Abby sold everything and left her home in Hawaii to move to Arizona, without knowing a soul. It was risky, but she and Josh met and have two beautiful boys now. Ultimately we feel that risk will always be worthwhile if you’re all in 100%.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We’ve been in the real estate business for three short years, but we’ve both been working in different home industries for over a decade. Abby has been a property manager for more than a dozen individuals, while Josh has worked in carpentry, roofing, flooring, doors and windows, and landscaping to name a few. We love being in the business of homes, we love the hustle, we love working with clients, we love learning about our industry, and we love fixing up our own little home. We have lofty goals that include buying, flipping, and renting homes to young families just starting out. Our passion for all things home related is what drives us. We want people to feel like they have double the time, attention, and effort coming from the two of us. We work well together and we each have strengths and experience the other does not. Our complimentary skills are what makes us such a great team.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of our favorite things to do as a couple is go out to eat. We would definitely recommend some of our favorite restaurants to any visitors. The Perch Brewery in Chandler is an bird conservatory turned restaurant! With live music and an amazing menu you eat your meal alongside exotic birds. It’s a unique and memorable experience. We also love the Draft Grill in Mesa. Great burgers and appetizers, but we like to go on Tuesday for pop culture trivia night. It’s such a fun time, and you can even win prizes. I would also suggest Mokis Hawaiian Restaurant. It’s locally owned and they serve delicious & authentic Hawaiian dishes. Every first Friday of the month they have a luau with fireknife dancing. Definitely a must do. Apart from eating we like to take our visiting guests to Boyce Thompson Arboretum. It’s an expansive desert botanical garden with lots of beautiful native Arizona plants and animals to see. It’s such a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When you were a kid did you ever set up a Lemonade stand in the summer? Your first customers are always your parents, they tell you they believe in you and that you can keep the change. That’s how it’s feels for us, but on a much larger scale. Both of our parents have been clients of ours early on. They’ve encouraged us to stay the course and have supported our goals every step along the way. We’re incredibly grateful to have such wonderful parents who are cheering for our success.
