We had the good fortune of connecting with Montana DeBor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Montana, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Chris and I are not only a work couple but a life couple so our work/life lines get blurred. But it also means we get to spend time together and are able to be creatively vulnerable (and give maybe too-honest critiques). Our house is a living space upstairs and a studio downstairs. We like the commute.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When all of my tours were postponed due to Covid-19 Chris and I had to hunker down and keep ourselves occupied. I began writing short covers of songs and original music in 1-minute formats that I called ‘Quarantunes’. We began to make short videos for them online and were blown away by the response. Eventually it led us to stop motion paper animation. A friend in LA commissioned us to make a short intro to his show and then bands began contacting us for full-length music videos. Stop motion animation is a lot like circus, you sort of just fall into it and fall in love with it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been all over the world but honestly Atlanta is one my favorite places on the planet and I love living here when I’m not on the road. I would take them to see street art in Cabbagetown, get coffee in Grant Park and mostly hang out in our studio -it’s our favorite place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate our success on the creative mind that I love so much; my partner Chris Burk. I’ve been a violinist since I was very young and grew up in a classical music environment. After college I ended up playing for circuses rather than orchestras or chamber groups (playing for a flying trapeze act is way more fun than playing for a wedding BTW) and getting to tour with some really extraordinary people. The combination of being part of that community and then eventually meeting and becoming partners with Chris opened the creative wormhole to work with new mediums.
