Deciding to pursue an artistic or creative career path isn’t for the faint of heart. Challenges will abound, but so many of the artists we speak with couldn’t be happier with their choice. So, we asked them about how they made the decision in the first place.

Ever since I was young I was always very intrigued by the makeup industry. It was something I wanted to try but was a bit fearful to. The kind of makeup I do is not very common, so I had a bit of fear stepping into it. I remember reading the quote “your comfort zone will kill you” and that has suck with me everyday moving forward. I finally dove into what I was so passionate about, and now I get to call it my job. With all of the rules and social norms and expectations of society I wanted to do something where I had total freedom to break all the rules. Art allows us to create are wildest dreams, fantasies, fears. To express whatever lies inside are hearts and minds without considering what others will think. We can literally create anything we want and find the audience that will understand and appreciate that work. Growing up with a hyperactive imagination combined with a knack for drawing is what ultimately lead me to pursue an artistic career. I was always fascinated with the artwork I would see in fantasy novels, cartoons, and comic books. I would try to draw some of my favorite characters exactly how they appeared in the books as well as with some of my own original ideas.
