We had the good fortune of connecting with Preston Turner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Preston, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Travels in my Lifetime LLC helps the world by showing off the beaten path destinations, cultural activities, history and the importance of supporting the local economy. I believe all travel is valuable and people want to see more destinations like Arequipa, Peru or Mérida, Mexico which may not be as popular as Lima, Peru or Cancun, Mexico. When a foreigner visits a new destination, I hope to inspire that person or group to try the local foods, traditional activities, and talk to locals. I want travelers to hire a local tour guide from companies that are owned and operated by a local people and to buy products from the indigenous people to stimulate the economy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Travels in my Lifetime is not just a business, it’s a brand. A brand that a person or group can be proud to attach themselves to. Not only do we promote traveling domestically and internationally, but we encourage people to become travelers, not just tourists. I’m the most proud of my YouTube Channel, where my family can see all my travels and learn something new through a visual medium. My wife gave me the boost I needed to build this brand from the ground up. She told me I had a story to tell and I should use my passion to inspire others. Growing my brand has been so difficult with many roadblocks, but I can honestly say that is the fun part. Every time I reach a little bit of success, I know I put in the work behind the scenes. The most important lesson I learned was patience. Nothing is easy and with that mindset I can accept failure. Remember it’s ok to fail. Stay the course! I want people to know Travels in my Lifetime is a brand for everyone. I believe all people and ages can represent the travel community in a positive light. My motto is “Make the world smaller” which means just say “Hi” to a stranger. You never know how that two letter word can make someone’s day.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Travels in my Lifetime is based in the world, not just a city. For purposes of the question being asked, I’m located in Washington D.C. If my best friend came to visit for seven days, I would knock off the tourist attractions first. I would take him/her to a few of the Smithsonians, which has 19 total museums. Next, we would do a walking tour of the National Mall, which consists of the Washington Monument and Martin Luther King Monument. We would check out a plethora a famous memorials, view the White House and go through Capitol Hill. We would also leave the city and start touring President’s homes such as Mount Vernon, Monticello, and Montpelier. All are within 2 hours of Washington D.C. A day trip to Baltimore to visit the Baltimore harbor with a stop at the Aquarium. When it comes to food we would have to try crabs and crabcakes from Ruff and Ready and a Chilli dog from the world famous Ben’s Chilli Bowl. For my 35 and older group I would take him/her to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and grab some drinks in different bars along King Street.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my mother who used to take me to library as a child. We’d checkout books about other cultures which promoted interests about different countries. My wife also deserves a lot of credit and recognition for working side by side with me during this journey. Without her I wouldn’t be able to do the things I do monthly.
