We had the good fortune of connecting with Adele Linton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adele, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I got fired one too many times! Sounds off putting, but it’s the truth. Creatives like myself just aren’t valued as much as we should be. Looking back, I was putting my heart into my work for these companies, but there was something missing – passion. The companies I worked for were lacking a certain personal touch. We as consumers are more willing to invest in a company’s services if we feel like they are relatable and not just out to get our money. I decided I wanted to change the game and pursue my mission to humanize local businesses and help them get that genuine connection with clients.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been very creative since I was a kid so I knew I’d do something creative with my career. I have so many creative outlets like drawing, painting, videography, photography, graphic design and singing. My biggest challenge before starting my business was not being able to be my authentic self. I was taught to cover my tattoos, have perfect hair and makeup, always wear heels and never say what’s really on your mind. Once I started Union Jack Media, I decided I was done with that. Now, I embrace my alternative look, I learned my opinion is valuable, and I wear what I’m most comfortable in. I feel so much more accepted by my clients and networking family because I’m free and glowing with happiness now.

I want to create a world where other business owners can feel the same as me. We know not everyone has to love us, so why not embrace those that do? Because I show up authentically, it helps bring out other people’s personalities. I want my clients to really connect to their audience on a personal level because consumers are more likely to support businesses when they actually like the people behind it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a singer in an acoustic duo so I’m naturally inclined to seek out other musicians. I’m big into live music, craft cocktails and food! Downtown Gilbert and Downtown Mesa are fantastic places to find all of the above. I’m also gluten intolerant so I know all the spots with those tasty gluten free options. The White Rabbit and Sotol are my favorite for fancy cocktails, 12 West is great for live music, and Joyride Taco House has the best tacos and margaritas. Another great place to visit is the Neighborhood Comedy Theatre in Downtown Mesa. They are all improv skits that involves audience participation for their skits, but they won’t pick on you unless you volunteer. Best of all, these places I listed have great happy hours!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give so much credit to the Mesa Chamber of Commerce. From day one, everyone has been incredibly supportive and friendly. I’m all about being authentic and staying true to yourself in all settings. I can 100% be myself with everyone in the chamber and still get major support. The staff, ambassadors and members actually want to get to know not only your business, but you as a person. It’s a great feeling to walk into a networking event and everyone is truly happy to see you.
