We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleigh Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleigh, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Easily the most important lesson my business has taught me is to value community over competition. Community over competition is something photographers preach about almost everyday and something I strive to implement. We live in a society where businesses are constantly trying to “out do” each other to make more of a profit but with photography your business blossoms once you start to collaborate with others in your field or others in fields that relate to yours and reach out to others with questions and for guidance as well. By valuing community over competition you will find your business is something that brings you happiness, you will receive endless education to better your craft, and the referrals that come with it boost your business substantially. Plus-it doesn’t hurt that you wind up with a million best friends!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a local photographer in the Gilbert, AZ area! I have fallen in love with senior, boudoir, and product photography for clothing stores and have specialized in these types of session for over two years now. One of the things that sets me apart from others is the experience you get when we work alongside each other. I am not only your photographer but your best friend and personal cheerleader all in one. I am extremely proud of the work I have put in to provide you with photos you will cherish forever as well as the bonds I build with all of my clients which makes me beyond excited to meet each and every one of you who have booked a session! Getting to such a comfortable place within photography is no easy task. I have juggled working multiples jobs alongside school while re-launching my photography business. Having friends, family, and returning clients who support me endlessly has made this process so worthwhile for me. They have taught me to never give up and that while things may be hard-they’re not impossible. I have loved every minute of starting from square one and am looking forward to continuing this journey with all of you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Gilbert truly has it all! If my best friend was visiting for a week I would first take them to a spin class taught by Dacia over at Funk Fit in downtown Gilbert to get their trip started on a healthy note! I would then pop over to Kaleidoscope Juice across the street to grab a quick post workout pick me up-they have the BEST juices. You can’t visit Arizona without doing some shopping right?! Another fun thing to do would be to visit the outlet malls and Highland Yard Vintage Market! Or even attend a spring training game-social distance style of course. During this trip we’d certainly have to enjoy some great local cuisine. Some of the places I would love to take them to would be OHSO which is a Gilbert staple that has the best food AND beers as well as Pomo for the best pizza around! For some fun weekend activities we would definitely visit the Art House in downtown Gilbert to attend one of their cookie decorating or canvas painting classes!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could write down about a million names if I’m being honest! There are a few people who stand out to me that have truly been my cheerleaders and provided me with an abundance of knowledge from day one. Francesca Hernandez who was the first photographer friend I had made plays a large role in my success because of her kindness and willingness to introduce me to creative ideas alongside allowing me to practice these ideas with her. The second person is Courtney Herzog-Tuinstra who owns Hunt & Leroux. Working alongside her and her clothing store has allowed me to branch off into product photography as well as providing me with such a great atmosphere to learn and grow within my photography business. Watching how Courtney runs her business and how she radiates such positive energy has been such a blessing! Last but certainly not least-Pilar Aguilera with Miss Pilar Beauty has been with me from day one. She brings out my most creative side and embodies what “community over competition” means. She has single handedly brought together countless people within the arts community and has touched so many lives; including mine in the process.
