We had the good fortune of connecting with Mendy Hoffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mendy, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to keep going, don’t quit. I have had the most personal growth in my life in the last 2 years of starting a business. Ask for help, rest when I need to and make time for myself, my family and friends. I have learned so much about who I am by having employees. Confidence in being me and learning to lean into the uncomfortable has been the most empowering part of starting my own business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Velocity stylebar is a locally owned and operated blow dry bar in Arcadia. I believe we are set apart from others with our Limitless Membership, our consistent service and team and our collaborations with so many other local businesses. I started Velocity 2 years ago and chose to stay present and innovative which was not easy through building from the ground up and the effects of Covid. We were fortunate to partner with Phoenix Fashion Week with Beauty By You tutorials, The Polo Party and The Style Trend Show. I cried, laughed and grew personally through all the obstacles and challenges. I learned to rely on myself, others and keep a positive mind. I want the world to know my brand is about community and empowering others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, we would get an express facial and our hair done at Velocity stylebar 🙂 and then to Pamprd Soul Nail Salon. I would take her on a hike up Piestewa Peak. Brunch at Chelsea’s Kitchen and a fun night at Top Golf. A place to get a drink and appetizer would be Nook in Arcadia. Durants is a must. A drive to Sedona up Oak Creek Canyon!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
