We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleks & Bonnie Tarasenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aleks & Bonnie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success in our ballroom dance career is authenticity and humility. With authenticity being the most important one. As ballroom dance teachers, our goal has always been to help people grow and transform from their life experiences and help celebrate their newfound confidence. In our lessons, our main objective is to remain authentic and empathetic, while maintaining professional boundaries in the intimate and vulnerable moments we experience when dancing. Being authentic to us means being true to ourselves — humorous, kind, supportive, and real individuals with a passion for sharing the benefits and beauty of dance.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our upcoming dance studio, Creative Dance Collective, is exactly what the name screams. With our extensive experience as certified instructors, performers, competitors, and social dancers, we bring a wealth of skills and knowledge of the dance industry to our students. Our vision is to create a collective of dancers and creative types of all levels and backgrounds, and to provide them a place to call home. A home built on mutual respect, trust, and communication. A home where we all push each other to grow not just as dancers, but as people.
And a community where elitist attitudes are washed away, and the cliques and boundaries between different styles of dance do not exist; instead, we encourage each other to expand out of our comfort zones and try new and different styles of dance. We are here to educate and assist students and professionals alike with their dance journeys, and we’re here to find others to help with ours. True dancers are forever students, and we are thrilled to be a part of your journey.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to dedicate our shoutout to all of our students who have believed in us and stood by us throughout the years and various studios. Our students keep us motivated and inspired every day, every lesson, and every dance event.
Even though they may feel the dance lessons are for them, and we are just there doing our job — our students do not realize how much joy and fulfillment we get from our lessons together. We are grateful and feel very blessed to have each and every one of them in our lives.
