We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Barr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alex, what do you attribute your success to?
As Dare to Birth has grown we keep coming back to focus on community. When new families are experiencing pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood they are often left alone with very few resources, support, or encouragement! So with our classes at Dare to Birth we are trying to foster community between new families. We are also making sure we are a resource that families can continue to come back to and reach out to for continual support.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The goal for Dare to Birth is to disrupt the negative narrative around birth and empowering pregnant people to trust their intuition and advocate for a more positive, informed pregnancy, birth, and fourth trimester. This sets us a part from other childbirth education curriculums because we are focused on teaching families what their choices are and then supporting them in those choices!

Business-wise Dare to Birth has grown out of my experience in the world of birthwork. I saw some major gaps in how families were being prepared for their birth and postpartum experiences. As I tried to fill the gaps as a birth doula I found that I wanted to do more and childbirth education allowed me to reach more families. That mission has allowed me to push through all the challenges that have come in my way so far.

I want the world to know that there are choices in their pregnancy, birth, and parenting journey! And it’s important that we know what those choices are, what our rights in the medical system are, and how to advocate for those decisions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to recognize my educators! I recently brought on three amazing educators to the team: Kaytlin Brown, Stephanie Mitchell, & Emmy Howard. They have all been huge supporters of Dare to Birth from the beginning. I can’t wait to see how many families we can support and educate with them on the team.
