We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Elkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexa, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Countless times I hear “Oh, you rub people’s faces!” Before becoming an aesthetician, I admittedly thought the same. However, there’s so much more to being an aesthetician than rubbing people’s faces. It’s the science of understanding the structure and function of the skin, our largest organ. How products and active ingredients work, and the chemistry behind them. Problem solving because every client’s skin and skin issues are different, so it’s not a one size fits all. It’s about educating clients to be able to achieve their individual skin goals while celebrating life’s ups and downs, helping them relax, and helping them feel beautiful. Your skin is always changing and I’ve realized it’s my passion to be there to help every step of the way.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The aesthetics industry is continuously evolving, therefore, I am continuously researching and learning ingredients, services, and techniques. I’m most excited to recently bring High Intensity Focused Ultrasound or HIFU to my business. HIFU is an alternative to surgery for skin tightening and lifting. It brings me such joy to see the excitement on my client’s faces when they can see the changes and improvements in their skin. I pride myself on taking the time with each and every client to educate them on their skin goals, helping them to feel relaxed and beautiful is beyond gratifying. Being a small business owner is a rollercoaster of emotions that is not always easy but worth every struggle. When you find your passion, you never work a day, you just love what you do!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Every time I have a visitor in town, I take them to the Roadrunner Bar & Grill in New River. They have bull riding, bonfires, live music, dancing and more. I’ve been told by my guests that the Roadrunner or “Dirty Bird” as referred to by locals, is the coolest bar they’ve ever been to.
Also, no trip is complete without visiting the eclectic town of Cave Creek. The locals are incredibly friendly. It’s fun to restaurant and bar hop, shop or browse at one of the many shops, and catch a rodeo or bull riding.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have helped and supported me along my journey that I am so grateful for. One being my incredible 16 year old daughter, who is my biggest motivator. Being a single mom the majority of her life, we are very close and she’s been my biggest cheerleader, sounding board, brainstorming partner, and the reason I strive to be better each day!
