We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandria Carroll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandria, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The Modern Alien started out as a graphic t-shirt shop, but as the brand has grown It has been converted more into festival clothing. So with that being said, the most important factor behind the success of the brand is how each piece speaks to my customers. My favorite part about selling in person is hearing people say, ” I saw this from across the road and I just had to have it!” These moments are so important because I want my brand to help represent an individual’s creative style!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Modern Alien is a women owned business operated by a retired raver. I have always loved wearing out of the box and off the wall clothing, but I never felt like I was able to express that part of myself without judgment from others. It really wasn’t until The Modern Alien started flourishing, that I realized I can create a space to be my truest self and wear whatever I felt like. I then wanted to do the same for others! I want a space where people can shop freely to express themselves and have the freedom to be as creative as they want. It definelty was not easy finding out exactly where I fit in. I’ve had to be confident within myself and who I am and realize that not everyone is going to like everything that I design. I now know who my clientele is and exactly what they’re looking for. I do attract the weirdos, and to be honest I am 100% ok with that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting Arizona we would be exploring downtown phoenix the first part of the week. There is so much to do downtown! They have so many events, and new places that are constantly going on everyday of the week! I would defiantly start out our day at Breakfast B*tch for brunch, that place not only has great food and mimosas, but it has such a fun environment. Then we would probably go hit the night life at Gypsy Bar, they have an arcade and bowling alley and a club environment. It has a bit for everyone. Day two would be outside exploring. I would take them to hike superstition mountain, such a beautiful view and hike. Day three would be visiting Canyon lake, my absolute favorite lake in Arizona. It is great to kayak, paddle board and just hangout with kids. They also have a boat ride that you can take through the canyon.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I most definitely couldn’t have gotten to where I am today with out my three children, and my three most supportive friends Ryan, Autmn and Stacey. My children love to represent my brand with their own custom t-shirts, and just always hype me up and help out in anyway they can. My friends Ryan, Autmn and Stacey have just emotionally, and physically supported this idea I have had from the beginning. They keep me motivated and encourage ideas I throw their way!
Thanks to all the models Ryan, Maurice, Autmn, Blake, Jennifer and Falacia.
