We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia K. Orozco and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexia K., what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I refuse to believe that you should limit yourself within your lifetime, much less limit yourself to one passion at that. There is obviously a method to the madness when it comes to this, it isn’t just a free-for-all because clearly, that’s how disasters are made. However, I have learned quite a lot in my nineteen years of living and one of the most prominent lessons I’ve learned to date is that I myself refuse to limit myself to one passion in this life. I’m at a point in my life where I understand that there is so much to be explored in this life I’m not even aware of yet, but all I know is that I am curious and driven enough to go after any passion, anything that inspires me and lights a fire within me because there is so much I want to do, limiting myself in any sense will never truly be an option of mine.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a model/creative in the Phoenix area for the last year and a half or so, and it has been one of the most rewarding and yet challenging things I have faced yet. One main thing I’d say sets me aside from others is the fact that I am an incredibly driven individual, if it exists, I can have it. Nothing is off-limits to me, and I’ll work as hard as it takes to get to wherever it is I really want to be, and I am more than sure I’ll make it there. Some of the things I am most proud of and always get excited about is magazine publications, it’s such a rewarding feeling to flip open to pages of a magazine and see yourself there. I also am so proud of the creatives I get to work with on the regular, my Contagion Media family and such, we create and put out some of the most expressive and captivating projects, I am so grateful and proud to work with such amazing, down to earth creatives. I really simply got to where I was today by doing my homework, going to castings, networking along the way, and simply going after what I really wanted and understanding what it takes to get there. I would be lying if I said there weren’t a lot of obstacles that were faced during my year and a half of developing as a creative, but nothing good ever comes easy. You overcome obstacles by working through them until after a while you don’t even notice them there anymore because you’ve worked around them to the point where those obstacles become obsolete. I’ve learned that not everyone is your friend and not everyone is going to be kind or even respectful to you at times and that you need to build tough skin in order to not let people’s opinions and words get to you, especially being a model in today’s world. But I’ve also learned that not only does it cost nothing to be kind, but also to never trade your authenticity for anything. What I want the world to know about me and my story? Like one of my favorite quotes ever reads, “I don’t know where I’m going from here but I promise it won’t be boring.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love being out and about in the city, especially with some good friends. Anytime I meet up with anyone it’s almost certain we’ll go out and there are all kinds of things we love to do. Being born and raised here in Phoenix, I love getting the opportunity to take someone visiting out to all my favorite shops and places I like to go on the regular. Going out to eat is a must, I love the scene in the Downtown Phoenix area so I always love to stop by places like Novel Ice Cream (best icecream EVER), Ziggy’s Magic Pizza Shop, and Black Rock Coffee just to name a few. Not to mention I really enjoy attending concerts or any sort of live music performance as well as admire the various art museums Phoenix has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, the outpour of support I’ve recieved lately has been so incredibly heartwarming and truly surreal as I have always appreciated anyone who has supported me during my short time in the model/fashion industry but lately it seems as if I have been getting more and more messages about people letting me know they see me and love and support me, and it really means the entire world to me and more. Those messages of encouragement keep me going in moments where things like impostor syndrome kick in or even just in general, I will never not appreciate any kind words of support others offer. It helps me feel like I’m on the right track and that all my hard work is paying off, so from the bottom of my heart thank you to all of those who encourage me! I mean it when I say any support from anyone never goes unnoticed. Thank you!
