We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Mael and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Our thought process behind starting our own business was to be able to do something that we love, all together. My dad, Ron, was able to retire this July and we were able to finally put our focus into this idea we have had for so long! Baking has been a focus in my family even before I was born, so we wanted to continue with the tradition. Because of this experience, we knew we could make cookies better than any other’s we had tried and thought it would be great to be able to share them with other families and hopefully one day be able to become self-reliant as a result of this.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets us apart from others in the baking industry is that our cookies are made with real, wholesome ingredients. We use real butter, the finest of flour, and pure vanilla just for starters. This is what makes us so proud to be making these for folks who can actually taste the difference in our cookies! We have learned that if your cookies are good, you don’t need crazy flavors for people to enjoy them!
We are learning a lot about how to get our name out there and how to navigate the business side of things. We hope to be getting into Farmer’s Markets this fall to kickstart that! Social Media is an amazing tool for small businesses that we are also learning to master. It is a process, but one that is definitely worth it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If friends and family come into town to visit, assuming it’s not summer time, we love to go hike Camelback Mountain for the great view of Phoenix! Of course you have to go for some taco’s and we love AZ Taco King! We also love to go to Pedal Haus Brewery for some good drinks and a great atmosphere!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my dad, Ron, and his good friend and colleague Paul Kerner for their encouragement and guidance through all of this. They have always been with me helping to develop recipes and ideas. Between the two of them, there is 80 years of baking experience!
I would also like to shout out @happiesthourscottsdale for helping me navigate the social media world! We know that it is such a great way to reach people and know that her help will greatly benefit our growth!
