We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Bates and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I truly believed from a very young age I would make it. I remember riding the bus down central avenue in Phoenix knowing that one day I would be living in one of those beautiful historic homes. I believed in myself when I had no one to believe in me and those thoughts of success and achievement have always pushed me to the next level. I don’t recall having thoughts of failure. Doubt would creep in occassionaly, but I have always moved so quickly that those thoughts have been fleeting. I have always felt a strong pull to inspire others and show them if I can do it, so can they!
Success is a choice like anything else. We have to decide what it is we want out of this life. I came from very humble beginings. If you had looked at my life as an observer, the idea of Spencer having an international company was not in the cards for me. However, I come from the belief system that I can have what I want if I rid myself of thoughts that contradict my success and progress.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I now own a medspa in Scottsdale called Snatched Scottsdale. We offer a full range of aesthetic and cosmetic procedures and we are truly a medspa that can be for anyone. I wanted to create an environment that was very inclusive you can send us your grandma or your niece or your uncle and they’re all having a great experience. I also operate Snatched Academy, my company that trains women on aesthetic modalities that I have designed. At the academy we also teach women about business, marketing and how to be the most successful in our industry. My other company is www.shopglowbody.com. This is our international aesthetic machinery company. Glow Body was a labor of love for me and something that I am extremely proud of. It was a complete leap of faith and without Glow I would have never branched off into my other businesses. There were a multitude of challenges when I started www.ShopGlowBody.com, but once the company began to run successfully I gained the confidence to open Snatched Academy and most recently Snatched Scottsdale. I would have never been able to do that without my team and the encouragement of people who had the insight to push my ideas. I have essentially made every mistake in business and that has given me the confidence to teach others “ what not to do”. That education is priceless.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
WHERE TO BEGIN! There are so many great places to go in Phoenix / Scottsdale. I would never allow any of my guests to miss out on The Parlor or Hula’s for drinks and eats. Craft cocktails I would suggest Melinda’s Alley or Little Rituals! Hiking here is always great as long as the weather is not 500 degrees. Some of my favorite hiking and walking spots are Tempe Town Lake, the Bridal Path, North Moutain, Camelback if you are in decent shape. In hot weather I would suggest a pool day at the Biltmore Resort or Mountain Shadows. If you’re up for a drive Sedona is full of people watching and gorgeous scenery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have always been someone who listened to podcasts and read positive books. I’ve been particularly inspired by many female entrepreneurs like Suzy Batiz, Jenn Atkin, Anna Petrosian and Almost 30 podcast. In fact, I attended one of Almost 30’s live events with Milana Snow and it completely changed my life. It was a major turning point for me. I had a very vivid meditation and that is what helped me decide to go back to my childhood dream of getting a medical degree and hitting the ground hard with my aesthetics business.
My team has been tremendously helpful in my journey as a solo-preneur. The support for me has been quality over quanitity.I have hesitated to keep a lot of people close to my businesses, but, my A-Team has helped me manifest these visions, thoughts and ideas beyond my wildest dreams. You really only need the few people you know you can call when the house is burning down My marketing team Alex & Jessica, have been incredibly patient and helpful bringing my vision to life through my 3 businesses. My personal support system, Cesar deserves an award for all of the unwaivering support of my ideas. Erica & Bridgette my best friends have also been a huge influence and support for me, essentially my personal cheerleaders.
