We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Beaman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was a desire to share alternative options for healing disease. When I was initially diagnosed with my thyroid disease at 28 years old, I was NOT given the option to heal my body. I was only given the option to destroy my thyroid gland with Radioactive Iodine, and then be on a prescription medication for the rest of my life. That destructive path didn’t resonate with me. I sought alternative healing and instead of destroying my body, I chose to support it by altering my diet and lifestyle. It worked. My thyroid condition naturally healed, my health improved, and I began sharing that knowledge with others. That was over 25 years ago, and I’m still sharing healing and preventative healing wisdom. People need to know that there are many health supportive solutions, besides the ones that are shoved down thier throats (via prescription medicine) at the doctors office. Medical professionals are taught that the body cannot heal itself and parts and pieces of the body can either be surgically removed or symptoms suppressed to help the patient find relief. BUT, that destructive path doesn’t relieve anything and never gets to the root cause of the problem. And, it actually contributes to more disease in the future. Getting to the root cause of the disease by altering diet, lifestyle and consciousness, is an option that is NOT presented to people. My job is to share those other options for health and well being. The human body is perfectly designed. When we give it what it needs (proper diet, exercise, sunshine, love, healthy relationships), it functions optimally. It’s not rocket science – just basic common sense that has been lost in our modern way of living.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I teach ancient healing wisdom about using food and herbs as medicine, and basic common sense, to modern people, because boy, oh boy, do they need it! And, I do it in an easy to digest fun way. Everyone shares knowledge in their own unique way, mine is a blend of educating, entertaining and empowering people to take back their health. When I first started my business it was NOT easy, but I was determined to make it work. In my heart I knew people needed this type of natural healing information that has been hidden from them, or actually, intentionally suppressed. With the rise of BIG Pharma and the modern medical system that we know today, came the destruction of the natural healers, herbalists, sages, and mid-wives. With those voices and natural choices silenced, allopathic medicine took over. Don’t get me wrong… we’ve made great advances in modern medicine (for trauma and acute illness), but when it comes to healing and prevention of disease, allopathic medicine is far behind. In regards to my business, every door that I knocked on when I first started my business in 1999, was quickly shut because I didn’t have a “medical degree” or a “nutritionist license.” But, I kept at it! I kept knocking and getting knocked down by the establishment, so to speak. There is a great proverb that says, “Fall down 7 times, stand up 8.” You just keep at it until you succeed. Soon, the doors I knocked on let me in. And, I started teaching classes at local venues in NYC and then it widened out to NJ, CT, MASS. About a decade ago, I put all of my classes and programs online, and they’ve been reaching people all over the world ever since. Plus, I have written 4 books that reach people all over the world with a message of health and happiness. I have a few more books up in my head and when I find the time, I will write them as well. Life is good. Challenging, busy, and good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in NYC and I’m a nature girl – if you can believe that! So, my first stop with my bestie in New York would be Central Park. And, not just in the summer. All year round the park is BEAUTIFUL. It’s an oasis for New Yorkers that are dying of thirst for connection to the natural world. There are hiking trails in the north woods of Central Park, beautiful bridges, ponds, lakes, streams and trails for horses. It’s a big beautiful and lush back yard for all of the folks that are living stacked on top of each other without any connection to the earth (dirt). There’s only so much asphalt and concrete my little feet can take! They long for grass. After working up an appetite exploring the park, we would go eat at any number of AMAZING restaurants in the city. One of the great things about NYC is that the competition is tough. That means many places are producing excellent quality food. OR we would go to 14th street, Union Square farmers markets to pick up some fresh food to prepare a home-cooked delicious meal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have supported my healing journey that’s it’s really hard to choose just one…. First and foremost, Macrobiotic Pioneer, Michio Kushi. His teachings were my first step in the world of natural healing using food as medicine. AnnMarie Colbin’s work was my second step into understanding the body from an alternative perspective. And, let’s not forget the many philosophers and healers throughout the centuries that have taught us to “question everything.” I still do that to this day… question everything until it resonates deeply with my own sense of reason and knowing. I also have to recognize Joshua Rosenthal – the founder of Integrative Nutrition. He helped me get clear on how to start my business and share my work with the world. My parents for giving me life and the opportunity to experience this journey in a human body that was created from the parts of their body blended together to create mine.

Like I said… so many people have supported my growth and success.
