We had the good fortune of connecting with Andreas Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andreas, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I appreciate it with no fair of losing and welling to make the sacrifice to get it done. I call it no fair no doubt something I learned when I was a kid to always persevere.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The way I was brought up and how I look at life play a huge role in what sets me apart. I see the immense need for music, in everyone. Music brings people together, and I get to be a vessel for that moment. The reason for the company was to unite people from all different backgrounds and walks of life, because we all deserve to win. Why not do it together? Honestly, seeing those that I’ve taught or have “taken under my wing” go on and succeed….. that is the thing that brings me the most joy and makes me the proudest. Getting to where I am today really came from risk-taking. And no, it was not easy. Some career decisions I’ve made have put me in a situation where I am the only black person there. That could be very intimidating to some people. I go into a room sometimes, knowing full well that I’m gonna have to prove my worth cuz the first impressions can already be stacked against you. So many life lessons have come from my experiences. You have to humble yourself and know that not every win was meant for you. But in the losses are the lessons. I want the world to know that we at City Boyz have created a whole new environment that is all-encompassing. We encourage growth and individuality
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Jerry Bob’s for breakfast for sure. Or I love Viva Burrito. I’m all about hiking so I’d probably head to Mt. Lemon during the day. Rollie’s is definitely on the list for lunch or dinner. Drive down to university and go to Frogs n’ Frank’s, and No Anchovies is next door. Later on at night swing over to Cobra Arcade, Mr. Head’s, The Hut, and even Hi-Fi and Funky Monk. I also love going over to Hotel Congress, especially when there’s live music.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes DJ Ty, DJ De Square & Mr Bruce. I appreciate them mentor me throughout the years. DJ ATL for Holding it down and being there when I needed him the most. Mc Jolly for stepping up at events and becoming a showstopper and the city of philadelphia thanks for giving me the tough skin
