We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Renteria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, what’s your definition for success?
For me: I think success is about the satisfaction we get for the work we put in. You could have a successful career, a successful marriage or a successful business but it took work to make it successful, right? Was it worth it to you? Yes?! Success!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The ever-evolving Chubasco Tacos. We started as a taco cart, then (briefly) a kiosk, finally a food truck (on hold at the moment) and now fortunate enough to be working with Sam & Brenon from Killer Whale Sex Club to offer our menu inside. Aside from our food, I’d have to say our personality sets us apart. We love the customer interaction, every once in awhile you’ll see one of us in the taco suit doing some street-side marketing for a few laughs. We’re definitely proud to have gotten through our first official year in business, meeting and exceeding our goals. Super excited to see where these new opportunities take us. It definitely wasn’t easy, we used a lot of help from the community, local & online resources. Constantly learning new things to stay ahead or at least try to keep up with the business. I’ve worn many hats as a business owner. Right now our biggest obstacle is the transition into a new space & navigating the never-ending red tape that is county permits, licenses & fees. We’re just two brother trying to serve some good food, try us before you judge, you just might be surprised.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s no shortage of amazing places to eat in Phoenix. A few of my personal favorites worth mentioning for food: Los Dos Molinos for their unapologetic heat and flavor that never disappoints.
Da Vang for having some of the best Vietnamese food in Phoenix, their Pho is no doubt #1 on my list.
Kabob Grill N Go, Tony and Hasmik are putting out some serious flavor here. The moment you step in you’ll be greeted by Hasmik and a huge billow of smoke/aromas from the charcoal pit in the back where Tony works his magic.
Bacanora, an instant classic for good reason. Using only a charcoal grill, Rene and his team have perfected every dish on their menu. No matter what you order, that first bite will change your life.
Bianco Restaurants, this may be a little biased since I used to work here but the ingredients and quality of their food is unrivaled and has always been a favorite of mine since the old Pane Bianco dinner days.
Ocotillo, a newer one on my list with some very memorable dishes like their pasta with chorizo ragu.

Places to drink & hang out:
Lux coffee shop can certainly be a hang out spot no matter the time of day. From breakfast to dinner, Coffee to cocktails, they do it all and they do it well. Check out their speakeasy Salon for your late night gatherings.
A few favorite breweries: Greenwood Brewing, Goldwater Brewing and Huss Brewing.
Late night spots include, Killer Whale Sex Club, another speakeasy style club with heavy hitting drinks, music and vibes. Lucky’s Indoor/Outdoor. Sazerac, Little Rituals, Bitter & Twisted, the list goes on but it generally depends on the vibe you’re going for.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course every person who’s shown ANY kind of support throughout our journey. All the help, advice and opportunities collectively got us where we are now, thanks to them. More specifically to the person that gave us our start and for her continuous love & support, Audrey Corley from Boycott Bar.
