We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelique Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelique, how do you think about risk?
“I don’t think anyone is ever ready , but when someone makes you feel alive again it’s worth the risk” – Nikki Rowe Flash back to 2015 I have to admit one the biggest risks I took was becoming a mom at the young age of 19! After suddenly loosing my mother in 2012 I felt very lost without her. My mom was my rock and my everything. Soon after her passing I turned 18 and it all spiraled downhill from there. I felt like I was constantly running. From what you may ask? Healing/ coping with her passing. I just didn’t realize it at that time. You see my mother and I were best friends no one could ever come between our bond. Even though I was adopted at birth I only ever considered her my mother not by blood but by choice. Although others did not. Once I became pregnant with my son I was absolutely terrified. So many thoughts raced through my head. How will I provide? How will I continue my college education ? But the most important question I had to ask myself was will I be as good of a mom to him as my mom was to me without her here to guide me along the way? I had big shoes to fill and from that very moment I laid eyes on my son I knew I would make a myself a promise to dedicate my life to him as my mom did for me. I promised myself even though I was young and still navigating my way through life trying to figure things out. That I would always would find a way to make sure my son doesn’t have to worry about struggling. So he could have the best childhood ever just like I was fortunate to have. You see he made me whole again he made feel alive again all the same feelings my mom use to make me feel.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If you were to ask my friends and family to describe me in one word they would all say VISIONARY. I am my best me when I’m in a creative outlet. Ever since I was little I always enjoyed creating wether it was placing all my stuffed animals on the couch and making up a song or dance , putting on a fashion show in my living room for my mom to watch , or rhine stoning anything I could get my hands on at the time. I thrive in a creative outlets and that’s why I’m so thankful I’m able to connect to with other moms like myself on social media. Some who I’ve never met before and probably will never meet but consider them as friends! Not only has social media given me the platform to share my story with others it has also served as an extra source of income for my family. Although I’ve been on Instagram for a couple of years I didn’t get into the whole “mom blogging scene” until this past year or so. I’m fortunate enough to continue to stay at home with my children while still providing for them. I’ve worked with some amazing brands this past year including Dunkin , Disney Plus , Dollar Tree , & Jouer Cosmetics @ Sephora just to name a few. I genuinely enjoy coming up with fun creative content for my platforms it’s what keeps me going!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to an ice rink! A lot of people look at me crazy when I tell them are 6 ice rinks local in Arizona. I know when people think AZ they tend to think heat. It tends to shock many when I tell them I use to be a competitive ice skater with hopes of someday competing in the winter olympics. I began iceskating at the young age of 4 and started competitively skating by the age of 6. Ice skating was my life at one point I lived , breathed , skated 7 days a week at one point my mom even homeschooled from middle school on so I could have more time on the ice. After breaking my wrists over three times and have of 10 fractures in one wrist at the same time. I realized that it was time to move on from the training life and I than became a certified iceskating coach through the USFSA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my kids Carter & Audrianna for always pushing me to be the best version of myself. Although I know I was placed on this earth to help guide them I know they were also placed on this earth to help guide me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. Because of them I finally found my niche if you would and that is sharing my daily relatable parenting struggles with other moms over on my instagram @angeliquejones__ . I think it’s important to show other moms especially young moms that you’re not alone in this journey it is definitely a learning experience for us all if you will. We as moms put so much pressure on ourselves to portray a certain standard and let’s face it were all just trying our best and that’s all we can do!
