We had the good fortune of connecting with Anna Hayner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was born and raised in Germany and had been searching for a career that embodied and drove my passions and allowed me the freedom to visit my family all the way across the pond. After completing my graduate degree, I was much too scared to jump into something as risky as owning my own business. I focused on developing skills in my areas of interest, which were educating and developing others as well as deep diving into the world of finance. My grandfather owned his own business, which is why I knew I needed the experience and do my research before taking on this new venture of starting my own business.
During graduate school, I worked as an UBER driver to practice my English and connect with people. One of my customers offered me a file clerk position at his law firm, which quickly turned into a legal assistant role.
Once I graduated, I worked for Navy Federal Credit Union, which strengthened my understanding of finance and lending. I then was offered a management position at Amazon, which provided me with the opportunity to innovate and develop and train my employees.
I like to test my limits, which I believe is a great indicator on the success of a business owner. Unless you are able to endure the hard times, you won’t ever make it to the good times. The one thing I never thought I could endure is working nights but I was able to prove myself wrong when starting my career at Amazon.
That is when I knew I was ready to start my own business. I knew I wanted to work and educate in finance, I wanted to connect with people and help them achieve one of the biggest goals of their lives and I knew I wanted my own freedom. Working as a loan originator was the perfect combination of all those things.
Was I terrified of making that leap? YES!
Was I worried I wouldn’t be able to create an environment that clients felt was different enough to take a chance on me? YES!
But I had wondered for almost a decade what it would be like to take that leap and I knew unless I tried, tested my limits and jumped, I would always wonder what if.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I take great pride in truly caring for my clients and the relationships I build. It is most important to me that I can guide someone through the difficulties of homeownership and educate wherever I can. I had to teach myself how credit works, how lending works, and how homeownership works and that was scary. Having a great resource at hand that can make the process easier for you, that will take the time to explain and teach and that understands the frustrating side of this overall joyous experience can make a big difference when buying/refinancing a home. I make it a point to overcommunicate and be transparent and honest. Sometimes that means showing patience and walking my client through every step of the way, sometimes that means letting my client know I cannot get them the best deal but I can provide the best service. I truly believe that being an advisor, a teacher, a warrior that is fighting for my clients best interest will stand out and make a tremendous difference when in comes to the process of homeownership.
Don’t get me wrong, my company, Premier Mortgage Resources, is incredible. Not only are we very fast and efficient, fully underwrite in 24 to 48 hours and close between 8-21 days with ease, but we are a family. Our owners take the time to connect with us on a weekly basis, keep us in the loop of the company’s successes and opportunities, and ensure we are well taken care of. We cheer each other on and want to support and share each other’s success, no matter the position you hold within the company.
Buying a home is the dream, it’s the biggest loan of your life and you would want to work with a company that is not only good at what they do but take the time to make you their number 1 priority. PMR is that company, and I am that person for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Arizona is full of fun places to go, eat and hang out. I am an absolute foodie and am a sucker for ice cream! Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream in Surprise is by far my most favorite spot to go to. Their variety of creative flavors is amazing and when is there not a good time to eat ice cream in AZ, right? The CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER BROWNIE is my favorite. If you are looking for a great cocktail, some good barbeque and a fun game night, Bonfire Craft Kitchen and Tap House in Surprise is the spot to go to.
The parlor in Phoenix has the best pizza around and the Sicilian Butcher in Peoria has the best Bruschetta I have ever had!
I recently picked up golfing so I would most certainly take any of my friends to Topgolf. The food is great, the service is wonderful and it is something fun to do even if you have never golfed before.
Of course, AZ has amazing National Parks and after eating at Handel’s every day (How else would you find your favorite flavor?), exploring will help justify the next serving of ice cream the following day. The Grand Canyon is a great place to explore, take tours and learn about nature. My favorite is the Antelope Canyon. It is incredible to learn about it’s rich history and creation, not to mention it’s absolute beauty.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has been my biggest supporter ever since I was born. She always wanted to have a child and after 3 years of trying, she got pregnant with me. Divorcing my father before I turned 1 and being a single mom, struggling to provide for me, was incredibly difficult for her. All she ever dreamed of was being a mom and having a family. As a physical therapist, you don’t make a lot of money in Germany so it was very important for her to save up any extra pennies. I am sure that is where I get my obsession with finance from.
Unfortunately for her, I fell in love with the US at an early age, when I was 11 years old to be exact. I was fortunate enough that my mom always took me very seriously and after telling her that I wanted to live in the US, she ensured I was able to visit during my summer breaks of high school. When given the opportunity to spend a year in WA as a foreign exchange student, she used her savings to be able to provide that dream for me. Not once did she call me crazy or shut me down, all she said was, ‘If you want to live in the US once you are done with school, you should live there longer than 2 weeks during your summer break.’
Without her consistent encouragement, love and support, I would have never been able to move to a different country. All it took for me was telling her that being in the US for the first time felt like coming home. That was all she needed to hear from her 11 year old daughter to support making her dreams come true.
During graduate school, my career changes and live changing events, she continued to say ‘Anna, you can do this. If one person can do this, it’s you.’
Although she would never take a dime from me, my biggest drive is to help my mom retire early, ensure she can come to visit me and enjoy her retirement free of worry about her financial situation.
Without her and her continuous cheering, I would have never taken the risk of starting a life in another country let alone start my own business.
So thank you mom, I love you.
