We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariel Cromie-Spalla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ariel, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started working as an independent stylist, I was unsure how to balance my work life and personal life. I think this is something many business owners experience, and it takes time to learn. I use to overbook myself and never took breaks or time to do the things I enjoy. Even as a commission stylist, I was constantly working and felt bad when I took time off. New into the industry, my primary goal was to build my business and establish myself as a hairdresser. I started to get burnt out and knew I needed a change to be successful. I still am trying to expand my business but now understand the importance of having a day for myself to participate in other hobbies aside from hair. This balance keeps me motivated, loving my career, and still allows me to work towards the being a successful stylist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an independent hairstylist located in Scottsdale, Arizona, at Lady & Wolf Salon. I am most proud of the progress I’ve made. I feel I’ve come so far from where I started versus where I am today. I ensure to take time to further my education by learning new techniques. I will do anything I can to improve my work and stay up to date on trends. This assists me with my goal as a hairdresser, which is to strive to meet my client’s goals for their hair.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Arizona. The weather almost always allows for adventures. I love the various lakes we have to enjoy the summer weather and that not too far away we can go to Flagstaff to enjoy the winter activities. On the way to Flagstaff, we’d spend some time in Sedona. There is so much beauty in our state and so many adventures to be had. Most of all, I love the Oldtown Scottsdale area. There are so many unique shops and restaurants to enjoy. Many of which are smaller businesses that provide amazingly unique experiences and products. We’d definitely stop by Lady & Wolf Market to check out all the beautiful plants and taste the amazing coffee and tea!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people to shout out for where I am today. My family is my number one support team and my biggest “fans.” I would not be where I am without their unconditional love and support.

My second family is Lady & Wolf Salon. Starting at Lady & Wolf Salon I immediately felt like I belonged. The salon is like no other! Coming into such a beautiful salon with so many talented hair artists who are all so supportive of each other was such a great experience. I had only been a stylist for a short time and thought there was no way the owners would pick me to work at such a fantastic place. But, Quora and Robert welcomed me with open arms and went above and beyond to help me become an independent stylist, and I cannot thank them enough. Everyone at the salon was so welcoming and continues to be a supportive team fostering a positive team environment. I can not begin to describe how much everyone at this salon means to me and how much they have helped me grow. Not to mention the many good memories we already have with many more to come. Lady & Wolf Salon is where I belong, and I am so thankful I found it so early on in my career.

Last but not least, I have so many kind and loyal clients. Words cannot express how appreciative I am they chose me as their stylist! My success is attributed to each and every one of them.
