We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashlee Kleinschmidt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashlee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to start my own business because I saw a need in the market. Women love to feel pretty. It makes us feel empowered. When I was a newer makeup artist, I noticed there wasn’t a place where women could get their makeup done with the focus being on them and on their makeup instead of selling products. It was a dream to start my own business that catered to that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Some people call it fearless. I personally think I’m crazy. I really love what I do and love my now three businesses. I could not imagine my days without them.

However, there are more days than not when I ask “Why isn’t anyone stopping me?”. My decision in “what’s next” is faith-led. If it doesn’t feel right, I don’t do it. And if I get a green light, It’s full steam ahead.

“Blood sweat and tears” is a real thing. I’ve heard it a lot over the years when someone describes something that they had to overcome. But when you’re in it, like I’m in it, blood sweat, and tears is a real thing that actually happens.

Because you don’t see anything but the finish line and you’ll do everything it takes to get there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a city girl at heart so right away my mind goes to New York City. I’m from New York originally transplanted into New Jersey. I live just 20 minutes from Midtown so a weekend in the city would be my first go-to. We’d go straight to SoHo to do some shopping, go to my favorite bakeries, grab a coffee, and do some shopping. Locally, I can’t lie — The town of Westwood, NJ ,where my businesses are located, has become a trendy downtown areas that is the new go to spot. There are restaurants, candy, boutiques, you name it. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out to all of the women who have supported me and my business over the last 8+ years. I have been on my own at an early age and over the years, the women who started as my clients are like family to me. Without them, my businesses would not be where they are today.
