We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Wilson-Hammer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Integrity is my most valued principle. I am fully aware of how fortunate I am to make my living doing what I am most passionate about and while it would be fair to say that I love horses more than I love the horse business it would also be fair to say that the horse world is full of amazing individuals that put the horse first in their decisions. Maintaining integrity in business decisions, especially when it comes to the well-being of the horses in my care, is crucial for building trust and credibility with my clients and peers and for me personally prioritizing the welfare of the horses in my care will always take precedence over the bottom line.
I am involved in the care and training of every horse in my training program and I am very fortunate to have a group of clients who are like minded.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ashley Wilson-Hammer Equine Performance, what makes my job as a horse trainer so special to me? First and foremost, it
would have to be The Horse. These beautiful animals never cease to amaze me in
their elegance, athleticism, grace, and kindness. Each horse I have worked with
has a unique personality and a different athletic skill set. Learning how to
communicate, coach, and train these individual equine is not only a challenge, I
consider it to be an absolute privilege. The same can be said for my fantastic
group of non-pro riders. Being able to be a part of their equine journey, watching
an owner and their horse come together as a team, seeing their confidence and
skill levels increase, observing a new horse owner begin to truly learn how to care
for their horse. Each of these moments make the blood, sweat, and tears aspect
of this career more than worth it.
As a trainer, being allowed to participate in this journey with a client and their
horse, is so extremely rewarding, and humbling, in fact it is mostly humbling,
which is what makes those moments of sheer exhilaration, that “ I am on top of
the world” emotion, something you strive to make happen again, and again for
your client and for yourself. That intenseness and the love of competition is what
inspires me, as a trainer, to bring out the best in each of my horses, and each of
my students.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
