We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Snedden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working as a night shift warehouse manager and going to school for graphic and web design. I had made a design specifically for the members of my night shift team and when I showed them, they wanted it on sweatshirts. I had ordered sweatshirts for the team to wear, and they instantly started receiving feedback and others wanted to know how they could get one! Around that time In school, I had a project due with the assignment of creating a live website and chose to use it as a way to test and expand the reach of what was the beginning of Graveyard Apparel. As the popularity grew, I tested new designs that also received positive feedback, and with a vow of confidence from my wife, and the support of the local SBA, I decided it was time to seriously pursue my passion in graphic design and officially created Graveyard Apparel.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From a young age I have always been attracted to art. I would love to color, draw, and just create things. When I was 15, I apprenticed under my Uncle at a local tattoo shop, where I learned a lot about design, how to organize drawings, and how to incorporate and transform ideas. I originally enrolled into college as a fine arts major, where I discovered my love for digital design and graphic arts. I transitioned my major into graphic and web design, where I’ve learned how to vectorize my ideas and sketches. All of this combined has evolved into the designs you see today through Graveyard Apparel.
Although GA was founded and started organically, as you read in the last question, it definitely has not been easy. The transition from doing something out of pure enjoyment to it becoming your livelihood can be daunting. There has been many late nights without sleep, moments of doubt and uncertainty, wanting to give up. At the end of it all though, nothing beats getting to wake up and do what you love every day. When ever doubt or uncertainty arises, I remind myself of why I do this, and how much fun it is!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Arizona offers some of the best fishing and hiking spots in the US! I love the outdoors here, and try to get out as much as I can. Afterwards, the River Dog Bar & Grill in Bullhead City is a great place to cool off with ice cold drinks, good food, and a great friendly atmosphere.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shoutout to my night shift crew that inspired the early designs. To my wife, who keeps pushing me to that next level. To my teachers at MCC. And most importantly, to every single person who’s supported Graveyard Apparel and has helped to make it a success!
