We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Stratton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
What inspires me most is the world that surrounds us and how we can use things we already have to make new creations. I was inspired by the trend of upcycling and making things instead of purchasing them. I have always been drawn to bright, bold colors and uniqueness of handmade items. I also am inspired by and love the beauty that nature provides from bugs, to animals, and different types of plants from all over the world. I use oil paints because of the way the colors are bright and can mimic nature very easily. I found this art outlet through relatives and of course Bob Ross which only made me more drawn to work with nature.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
All of my art is very bright and colorful, with different patterns and colors in each art piece. I use black contrast on my oil paintings to bring out the colors of the bugs and plants, in my clothing and jewelry I use bold colors and patterns to emphasize my style. I grew up with art in my family and had great art teachers who taught me skills that I use in my art today. Although art was a part of my life, my journey to find my own artistic style has not been easy nor has been pursuing art as a career. Finding my style in paintings has developed over the years with online research and finding my love for how nature can be portrayed. I began my artistic career by creating handmade art and clothing or jewelry for family and slowly built an online store and over that next year I attended a handful of farmers markets in the East Valley. What I have found is that the you can see beauty in broken or old items as well as the bold colors that nature provides us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had family or friends visiting Arizona, there are many different spots that I would want to take them. In the downtown Chandler my go to spots to visit for great food and drinks are The Perch brewery, The Sleepy Whale and Gadzooks. There are tons of gorgeous spots in nature including the Tonto Natural Bridge and a spot local in the Easy Valley, the San tan Mountains.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The reason that I have come so far in my artistic abilities is due to the family I am surrounded by and the way art is intertwined in our lives. From my great grand father who was the first to introduce me to oil paintings, to my grandmother who always was using acrylic paints and sewing or crafting, or my youngest sister who is a sculptor. My family is who has inspired me to try to further my efforts in art.
