We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridgette McDonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridgette, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I love Risk it definitely keeps me on my toes. Risk is Frightening and exciting all at the same time! If you never risk anything you never achieve anything. You have to be bold enough to fight many odds and you have to be fearless in the drive to not fail. You must be able to overcome and handle any downfall or hurdle that comes your way. My motto when I started Roka always was and always will be if I fail at anything I will stand right back up and do it better the next time. Plus I never like to be told I can’t do something and definitely don’t like to be told no, haha. I don’t even mind having people not believe in me because it just drives me more! I’m thankful for risk and thankful my husband fully trusts my abilities with risk. Roka has given me my fair share of risk and I know more to come but our team and myself are always ready for it.Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Roka Boutique opened in November 2005 to a very receptive public. We offered something no one in the west valley offered. Talk about risky! Roka was the first moderate to high end fashion boutique to the west valley in a setting of a Nordstrom style Caliber. We are known for customer service in building relationships with our clients and our community. We truly have incredible clients. Roka offers alterations and we have our own “APP”, yes it’s free in the APP store. We definitely feel both of those set us apart from many others. Hmmm how we got to where we are today, by risk taking, innovation, creativity, laughter, never accepting no, failing, stumbling, fight & get back up again. No it hasn’t been easy but there are some pretty incredible people that have believed in me and what we had to make this continue Year after year. From my CPA to my book keeper to my window designer Christa, my manager Kristen & our staff and Business consultant Sarah and my family and our clients they are the reason I fight for this to be better and better! Overcome challenges by keeping your head up and telling yourself fight, you got this. Even when you want to truly shut down. That happens a lot haha. I would love the world to know I genuinely with all my heart just LOVE people. I love kindness and I love hearing about others successes and celebrate with them. Regarding Roka I would love for people to know while we sell you Style we are giving you love and we are giving you a safe place to find happy moments and laughter & meet new friends. As one of our dear clients Kathy says “Roka is like Disneyland, it’s like the happiest place on earth”. We truly Love People. It’s the Roka Way.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I would definitely take them to Roka to share my business and hope they get to meet and chat with our girls and amazing clients hoping some regulars would be there. Then I would take them to my “local”places I love to shop! Signatures, Robyns Nest, then to lunch at Cantina on LPP & Happy Valley (local restauranteur). Then head to Poppies Floral at Norterra to grab some fresh flowers for week she’s here and a cute gift for my BF to take home! We would definitely hit Sorso for some wine and Apps at The Scottsdale quarter. Some other places to get food would be Tavern Grille Scottsdale owned by pretty awesome twin brothers. Have to order Cajun Moose tracks from there. Might have to take her to hike camelback after all the food we eat. Oh and Sakana for Sushi! Definitely head up to Sedona to show her the red rocks and visit my ultimate favorite Indian Gardens Cafe & Market (they were due to reopen early 2021) but to sit out back amongst the trees while sipping my favorite craft coffee and what I feel like is the freshest brunch options with my bestie just makes the day. I’m a tried and true local gal at heart so anything local is a MUST SHARE with my BF. We would end each night with family & friends enjoying wine, food and laughter in the comfort of my simple but well back dropped home. Every morning we would take the dogs for a walk to Wells coffee nestled in the heart of WestWing. Kevin the owner is fantastic (my dog thinks so to) grab caramel lattes and now they carry Donutsville Donuts (I’m in big trouble, good thing it’s a 2 mile walk round trip) Can’t help but end her trip on the last night at the Royal Palms (My husband and I secret hideaway) with food and drinks and hopefully music outside. I’m sure I missed a few things as I love AZ.Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow! There are many to credit but my #1 is my husband! He trusts me with the entire business that we had funded personally together. No questions asked. Scary right, haha. That I will say makes a huge difference in risk taking as well so it helps to have full support of your spouse. #2 Sarah King Source consulting! She is my life long business consultant. My life is entirely different since Sarah came along in December 2014. I don’t trust many when it comes to our business and this fell right into place. I didn’t even back out on the initial phone meeting that started us working together. That’s Huge for me. She is the eyes & ears behind the scenes. In a nutshell she is my monthly business planner for buying & budget not to mention she guides me on HR. She’s a big part of my success and many others. You can NOT wear all the hats in business so find the right people that can go along side you to create big successes!
