Meet Burgundy Constancio | Hairdresser and Head Spa Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Burgundy Constancio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Burgundy, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I was about an hour and a half into a head spa session when my phone started vibrating off the counter. Call after call, all from numbers I didn’t recognize. I didn’t pick up because head spas are quiet, intimate services, and I pride myself on giving my clients undivided attention. By the afternoon, I had 55 new appointments booked and over 5,500 new followers on Instagram!
It turns out Lacy Cain from Wildjoy Experiences had posted a mini Instagram video featuring my head spa. That post became a firehose of new clientele, changing my life overnight. Within 48 hours of December 18th, I was fully booked up through March. Influencers started reaching out, along with requests from my long-time clients, and soon I found myself squeezing people in even on my days off.
Since then, I’ve been working six days a week. But in August, I realized the long hours were starting to take a toll on my family life. I decided to shorten my workdays to find a better balance. Now, almost ten months later, I’m still reflecting on managing success and self-care. I have a guilt when I can’t show up for my clients, most of them have booked over 3 months in advance. On the other hand, I have crossed personal boundaries and I’ve booked clients on my days off. I need those precious hours with my family and I felt them slipping away. I started to get depressed. I’ve learned that balance is vital when it comes to both work and home life. Don’t get me wrong—head spa is my passion—but my husband and pup suffered in loneliness without me around. Now, I’m learning to be more intentional about setting boundaries with my time. I make sure to protect my days off for family and rest, and I’ve realized that when I’m well-rested and connected to my loved ones, I can show up better for my clients, too.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Desert Rain Hair Studio and Head Spa, is all about creating an escape from reality. It’s Scottsdale’s first private head spa studio, designed to immerse my clients in a complete experience. I want my clients to feel a child-like wonder when they look at the ceiling lights, to feel rejuvenated during the massages, and to have their senses awakened through the use of various essential oils and scents throughout the service. My goal is to create a space where clients feel a sense of safety, rest, and connection on a deeper level.
My main service is the Mythical Monsoon head spa, a layered experience that combines luxurious scalp care with holistic touches. My head spa protocol includes 12 steps, starting with a scalp analysis and followed by a hair oiling ritual, customized shampoos, deep scalp treatments, and rejuvenating massages. I even include a palo santo ritual to cleanse the energy and set the tone. I developed this service through online research and training with Milbon, a Japanese haircare brand. Over the last year, I’ve been adding and removing elements to ensure the best results for my clients. The results with Milbon products have been the best I’ve seen in my career, and I’m committed to curating an experience of luxurious perfection.
I am incredibly proud of the rapid success of my head spa services. In December, a reel went viral on Instagram, and within 48 hours, my books filled up from December to March! I suddenly had new clients, influencer requests, and my regulars all trying to get in. I was so excited and grateful for the momentum that I worked tirelessly, often overbooking myself, to meet the demand. But by August, I realized that the long hours and nonstop pace were taking a toll on my personal life. My husband, Justin, and our pup needed me, and I could feel the burnout creeping in.
That’s when I decided to adjust my schedule, shortening my workdays to reclaim some time for myself and my family. It was a tough lesson, but I’ve learned that balance is crucial, not just for my well-being but for my ability to deliver the best experience to my clients. Head spa is my passion, but I’ve come to see that I can’t pour from an empty cup. Now, I focus on maintaining that balance so I can show up fully for my clients, creating a sanctuary where they can truly unwind and feel cared for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestie were coming to visit for a week, the first place I’d take them is the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Scottsdale. I once saw a puppet show there, Kid Koala: Nufonia Must Fall, and it completely blew me away. I expected something like The Muppet Show, but it turned out to be an incredibly moving experience. The beautiful acoustics from the string quartet and a touching story, brought me to cry big, juicy tears. If my bestie were in town, we’d definitely reserve a Friday night for live event like this.
We’d also have to eat at my favorite restaurant, Rito’s. When my husband and I were dating, there was this unassuming building by my house. It looked like an old daycare or a church, with the windows all painted over, and we thought it was closed. One day, we decided to look it up and discovered that it was actually a hole-in-the-wall Mexican food spot with the best burritos in town. Almost a decade later, Rito’s has locations all over the valley, including one just down the road from where I live now, and it’s still a favorite of ours. I’d love to share that memory with my bestie and show them a hidden gem that holds a special place in my heart.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to start by thanking my dad, Dennis Hubert, who has put so much heart and soul into my business to help me get to where I am now. Ramon Constancio, my father-in-law, thank you for your initial investment and believing in my ability to succeed. My business coach, Lynzie Smith, has been incredible—thank you for your direction, guidance, and support every step of the way over this past year. I’m also grateful to my stepdad, Larron Lerdall, for your investment and unwavering belief in me, my business, and my creativity.
A special thank you to Tiffany Deal for your help and advice, to Lacy Cain for the shoutout that sparked a wave of new clients, and to Things.To.Do.AZ for the viral reel that brought my head spa to even more people.
Marissa Patino, Mj, you’ve been my model, handyman, friend, and support system. I can’t thank you enough for always being there.
And lastly, to my husband, Justin—my rock, my joy, my lifelong gift. Thank you for your love and support through it all.
