We had the good fortune of connecting with Nybriah Riley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nybriah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk Taker: a person who is willing to do things that involves stepping out of their comfort zone in order to achieve a goal. I was never a risk taker, in fact I didn’t become a risk taker until this past year when I moved to Phoenix, AZ. I was always too shy and doubted my talents for the longest time, while others saw potential in me. It wasn’t until I moved out of my hometown (comfort zone), that I decided to see what everyone else seen in me. I took my first risk when I said “YES!” to a modeling shoot within 3 months of moving here. Since then, it has opened up many opportunities I didn’t think I could ever obtain.
Risks can be scary, but everyone has to take the big leap of faith one day, if you truly want to become successful in the line of work you’re trying to accomplish. In the end you’ll be so glad you did it!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Being able to turn what I love into a career still blows my mind at times. This road was never easy for me, I dealt with body shaming when I was younger, I was always the tallest friend out of the group and apparently it wasn’t a “good look” to be super tall in an all girl friend group. I hated how I looked and often cried about being the “tall and skinny” friend. It wasn’t until I got to high school I gained confidence in myself and stopped caring with others thought of me. I started a youtube channel, started taking pictures of myself and honestly that’s when my passion started.
I’ve learned that you only have one body and although you may not like how you look, your weight or height it’s yours and no one else’s. Love yourself completely because no one else will. With my change of mindset, my confidence led me into wanting to become a model. I took what I hated most about myself (being tall and skinny) and turned into something I now love.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so much I’ve yet to explore since moving here last year, but I have found some gems. I’m an outdoorsy person so I’d definitely take them up north to ride the ATV’s! It’s so much fun riding around in an open space, through the mountains and over the hills. You might get lucky and even see wildlife. As for food, I would recommend “Hot, Juicy Crawfish”. I’m big on seafood boils (seafood in general) and I’m so happy there’s a few restaurants that caters them. Next, I’d recommend driving down to Scottsdale for shopping aspect and to site see around the area. Arizona’s views are amazing! I’ve lived here just over a year now and I still cant get over how beautiful the mountains, palm trees and sunsets are!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want dedicate this shout out to my husband. My husband has been my number one supporter from the very beginning. When I doubted myself, gave him many reasons why I “couldn’t”, he never failed to remind me why I could. When I accepted my first gig, he was right there watching at the sidelines rooting for me and more. From that day, my perspective about myself and what I could do changed. I’ve been a better version of myself since then. My small group of friends here, who are more like family has also been a huge support and blessing in my life as well.
