We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The principle that matters most to me is “Love them Anyway”. This comes from the book of Luke in the New Testament of the Bible, and was made popular in recent times by Mother Theresa. The reason I love this is because it is a very simple phrase that contains so much wisdom and inspiration for living one’s life. To me, it means that when someone wrongs you, you should forgive…and love them anyway. It suggests that when we are hurt, we should “let it go” and love them anyway. And it even means when we are disappointed in ourselves, we should also forgive ourselves, let it go and love ourselves anyway. I have learned that holding onto anger, grief and sadness only perpetuates the hurt and makes us relive horrible moments all over again. When we “Love them Anyway” it calls us to move away from darkness and learn from these experiences. It is not asking us to forget, because we can never really forget things that have hurt us, but rather to have understanding and compassion for the individuals that wronged us, and free ourselves from the burden they represent. “Love them anyway” lightens your load and puts time and energy back into your life to do great things!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
JNC stands for Jeff ‘N Carol. We founded JNC Global 10 years ago with the simple goal to Be Of Service to our business partners and customers. Being of service takes on many forms including finding ways to save money on raw materials, increasing sales, differentiating brands, etc., etc., whatever our partners lack, we seek to provide! We LOVE life. We love each other, we love our kids, families, friends, and we love what we do. We are optimistic and we are happy! Our life, like everyone we know, is full of challenges, disappointments and mistakes, but we push through those things and find the ‘joy’ in every single day. We believe in “Enjoying the Moment” and we like to see the silver lining in the storm clouds. We love to help those we love and do random acts of kindness for strangers. We founded JNC Better Living 4 years ago to take the concept of Being of Service to individuals. We weave inspiration and hacks to improve daily living into our social media platforms and yoga classes. We find JOY in every day, and we want you to have the same rewarding experience in your everyday life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are always so happy to have visitors so we can show off our favorite spots in Arizona. If you visit AZ for a week, we suggest starting out your adventure by unwinding and relaxing at the pool. Spend time swimming, biking or walking, but whatever you do, take in the spectacular Arizona weather. Just before sunset, we will head north for a light dinner and wine at Raven’s View. It is a bit of a drive, but the scenery is breathtaking, the food is lovely and the service is delightful. We suggest getting to bed early so that we can get up before the sun and head to Canyon Lake for a boating excursion the next day. There are other lakes in Arizona that are lovely, and even easier to rent a boat; however, boating on Canyon Lake is superior because of the incredibly serene setting and beautiful scenery. That evening we would suggest one of our favorite Italian spots called Spiga Cucina in Scottsdale. Everything on the menu is fabulous, and if you have to wait for a table, check out the photos on the walls of all the celebs who also enjoyed this gastronomic dining experience. Next day we suggest a bit of a slower pace with a round of golf. There are so many amazing courses to choose from in and around Phoenix, but if you are on a budget, we highly recommend the 500 club. Very reasonable golf and cart fees and very lovely people. Let’s finish with an easy dinner that night with either Chinese food from Jade Palace or Mexican food from Jalepeño Inferno. The next day let’s start out early with a sunrise drive up to Sedona for a hike up to the Cathedral Rock vortex. This offers quite an enlightening experience because it is a sacred area in Native American history and has a beautiful view at the top offering great spots to meditate. It is less than one mile hike, but not for the faint of heart, as it slopes up steeply, requiring you to slide down on your butt for one segment just to get down. For less experienced and less fit individuals try The Boynton Canyon vortex 6 mile trail . It still offers some beautiful scenery and reflection spots but is mostly horizontal and available to every experience level. Once complete, we’ll head to the Haunted Hamburger in Jerome for one of the best, juiciest burgers you’ve ever had. They have a very cute downtown with unique shops including one with hundreds of kaleidoscopes that is not to be missed. If time permits, during your stay, we also suggest a trip to the Grand Canyon, with an overnight stay at El Tovar. This is about a 3.5 hour drive each way, but well worth it! The scenery is breathtaking, as you would expect from one of the 7 wonders of the world, and the food at the El Tovar restaurant is first class. Finally, we would suggest that you round out your weeklong stay with a fine dining experience at Cafe Monarch. They offer a prix-fixe world class meal with wine pairing that is Michelin Star worthy and is a 5 star dining must in Old Town Scottsdale.
