We had the good fortune of connecting with Charissa McCarron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charissa, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
For the most part, I never give up. I think that has to do with your attitude and grit—- and I’m going to assume it is a characteristic that you are born with. What I realized over time however, is that if something is worth it, you should never give up. If something has a negative effect or takes power over you or negatively impacts you or your goals you should absolutely give it up. So while you hear the phrase “give up”— on the surface that sounds like you’re quitting., but some things you should let go of. For example, you can’t change other people and some people don’t encourage you or lift you up… Those are the friendships you should give up.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart are two things: I’m very relational and I do the things that I promised. I don’t look at people for selfish reasons… I truly connect with them and get to know them and try to help them achieve their goals. Because of that people feel heard and noticed in that typically creates a lifelong friendship and client loyalty. A lot of people don’t follow through and drop the ball. That action part is the gap between “a job and success.”

I don’t know that I would say it was easy or hard to get to where I am. I will be honest, I am successful, but at the end of the day, it was a series of moments… Some that were difficult, some that were exciting and some that were painful. Each day is different in sales… Some sales come easy and some sales take 12 years to get. Some clients are loyal for life and are close friends and some clients betray you, ghost you and hurt you deeply… But at the end of the day you learn from both the highs and lows in sales. If I look back on my career, the thing that was consistent was me. I am disciplined and have a routine. Each year I’ve gotten better with my utilization of time, being more honest and communicative and level-setting expectations… And most importantly, letting go when something doesn’t go my way. I always want to leave a positive impact wherever I go. When you try to do that every day or during every meeting… You usually see much success and joy in your job.
My secret to overcoming challenges is to have godly people you trust and can go to for advice; pray, have tenacity, and grit. You have to push through and not let things affect who you are and how you respond.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone were to come to Arizona for a week, I would want to show them a variety of what it has to offer. I would start with a day at my house where we can relax, eat, watch the sunset and talk on our back patio and look at South Mountain. After that I would show them the sunset at Shula’s steakhouse just south of us in Chandler near Wild Horse Pass. The food and drinks are amazing and the view is stunning. I would take them on a day drive all through Scottsdale and show them a different architecture of homes and drive to Camelback Mountain. If they’re up for a hike, take them for a hike. I would do an overnight stay in Sedona to show them the beauty of the red rocks and take them on the Seven Sacred pools hike and later that night eat at Mariposa. My other favorite spot is Prescott… I would try to take them either during Christmas or the Fourth of July parade so they can see the town , alive with culture, art, and friendly people. If we had time, I would drive them to the Grand Canyon to sit and see its beauty. And finally, I would rent a boat on Saguaro Lake and show them the beauty of the lake in the middle of the desert.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh my goodness… There are so many shoutouts and recognition I can give to books, people, and experiences that have shaped me! First of all my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Reading the Word and having a relationship with him has created the best parts of me. It’s taught me about true joy, purpose, how to be a good parent, wife, and mother. It’s given me strength and grace through all my failures. The Lord teaches me life lessons. I don’t always get it right, but I always have peace.

I’m an avid book reader… There are so many books that have impacted my life in addition to the Bible….. “Girl, Wash Your Face.” “Unglued,” “Unreasonable Hospitality,” “Exactly What to Say.” When I read or listen to a sermon, I take notes. Notes help me learn, absorb, and I can refer back to them. In a world filled with distractions and everyone vying for your attention, I take notes on the powerful things that I need and want to penetrate my heart and mind.
