We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Drysdale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I started Jet Set Pretty because I’ve always loved and been the go-to girl for anything style-related for my family and friends, so I wanted to share that with a bigger audience if I could. I blog and share about my current favorites in fashion, designer dupes & splurges, makeup, beauty products, and my Christian faith. All of which I would share with those close to me, and still do! There is nothing that makes my heart so incredibly happy than knowing I made someone feel more confident. It’s so important that people realize their worth, and if I can use my passion to do so then I’m doing the right thing. We’re all everyday jet setting babes, whether it’s working, traveling or simply hustling through life- I think everyone deserves to feel gorgeous and their best-selves doing so.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
By day I’m a Marketing Manager, and by night I’m Jet Set Pretty. I feel so grateful that I get to be creative in all aspects of my life, which really keeps me going and pushing me to pursue goals and challenge myself. I’m definitely most proud of how I organically I grew my Instagram page so far, as I wasn’t sure what to expect working essentially on the other side of “marketing”, being the influencer now of my own brand. Something that sets me apart is that I’ve tried to stay out of the big giveaways to grow my following, as I feel there’s so many of them out there cluttering up the feed. Not against them at all as I know they can be really successful, but I have opted to do smaller giveaways more focused on items I already own and love! That being said, it has also been a CHALLENGE. You’re constantly fighting with a new algorithm, previously established bloggers with huge followings, and simply reaching people. I wanted my personality and brand to stand out, which is something that I’ve realized only comes to me when I truly stop worrying what I’m posting and if people will like me. I’ve learned to go with what I love, whether it’s the color pink, girly things, feeling edgy, feeling sad, whatever it is I feel that day! I’m not going to be for everyone and that’s something I’ve come to terms with. It’s been so freeing being able to be authentically me and share what makes me happy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough one! Being an Arizona native, there’s lots of hidden gems I’d make sure we would go, starting with booking a room at The Scott Resort for the weekend; it’s just the cutest hotel with Havana-themed decor, a fun little bar & lounge area, I just love it! We would have breakfast at True Food Kitchen, one of my favorite spots for a good latte and avocado toast. Plus, there’s a location in Scottsdale Quarter and we could easily walk around doing a little shopping at some of my favorite stores like Forever21, Sephora, Free People and Gorjana. I would absolutely make sure we had lunch (or dinner too) at Ajo Al’s Mexican Cafe. My family has been going there since I was a little girl, and it’s the BEST casual spot for good mexican food and margaritas! I’m also such a sucker for a good place with ambiance lighting, a pretty patio with good music and yummy food and drinks too so we would of course have a fancy dinner to dress up for a girl’s night out. I love Wine Girl, Olive and Ivy, The Mission, Zinque, and Postino. It would be so fun to do a day trip up to Sedona and have lunch at Mariposa or L’Auberge resort! Nothing like rewarding yourself after a little hike with a glass of champagne to top off the pretty Sedona views! Some of my other to-do’s would be grabbing an AJ’s iced tea, church at Impact, a facial with my girl Megan Faces, and a sweet al fresco dinner at my parents house (mama makes the best bolognese pasta!).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Gosh, I owe so many people for support to get started creating and sharing! First and foremost I really have to give it to my husband DJ though. He has never once hesitated to push, encourage, lift me up, compliment me and most importantly…TAKE SO MANY OF MY PHOTOS! Talk about the ultimate cheerleader always, I’m so thankful he has supported me in chasing after something that aligns both my dreams and talents. I’ve also been really lucky to meet some other amazing bloggers in this space who have so kindly given advice to me along the way. I’m so grateful for those friendships I have made in simply reaching out and asking for help!
