We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsey Bishop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
Learning the power of persistence and consistency has truly been the major contributing element to not only reaching success in the form of newfound health, but also maintaining it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The “TLDR” version of my story is basically this: I lost 170 pounds by changing my way of eating. Of course, anyone who has embarked on their own weight loss journey can attest to this, there really is so much more to it.
I am fairly short at 5’3 and had been pushing 350 pounds for most of my adult life. I was on a Christmas vacation at Universal Studios in 2017 when I had to be removed from a rollercoaster because I was too large for the safety harness to latch over my body. That moment was so incredibly mortifying and became my catalyst for change. I was barely in my early 30’s and was already experiencing so many negative health issues directly related to my morbid obesity. I had hypertension, sore/swollen feet, tachycardia, sleep apnea, breathing issues due to having such a heavy chest, borderline pre-diabetes, I could go on.
After returning from vacation and seeing one of my “real life” friends post their keto weight loss transformation on Facebook, I started doing my own research. I dove into the lifestyle head first – not knowing every single thing there is to know – but with a yearning desire to transform my health. I tried my best to eliminate sugar, grain and starch from the majority of my food and kept patience in the forefront of my mind. In one year, I lost 100 pounds. About a year later, I lost a total of 170 pounds. And I’ve been maintaining that 170-pound loss since 2017 by living a relaxed and sustainable ketogenic lifestyle.
I use my social media platforms to share my journey, tips, food, struggles and daily life with hopes to inspire others to transform their lives in the same capacity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a native Tucsonan and absolutely love living in Arizona – I truly couldn’t see myself living anywhere else!
Aside from the mountains and beautiful weather, the food in Tucson is unreal. If you haven’t experienced Mexican food here, add it to your bucket list. I love the ketogenic lifestyle because it allows me to still enjoy all of my favorite local restaurants. Guillermo’s Double L is one of my favorite spots. I typically order a big bowl of carne asada or red chile. Across the street is the very popular Mi Nidito where you can usually find me eating a plate of their signature birria. Want to try a local keto eatery? Definitely check out the keto menu at Blacktop Grill for some divine cheese-wrapped hot dogs and tacos!
The Desert Museum is one of my favorite local treasures for both locals and tourists. It’s essentially a really cool zoo, but with a “southwest” Instagram filter. Take the scenic drive on your way there along Gates Pass Road for a little white-knuckle adventure and a lot of beauty.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Beginning a weight loss journey in any capacity is truly a difficult feat, but doing it alone can make it almost impossible. I often attribute my ability to stay motivated to the wonderful support of the keto community on Instagram. Having a sense of community and knowing you aren’t on this journey alone really makes all the difference.
