We had the good fortune of connecting with Dai Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dai, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson I learned thus far in my business was the need for having systems in place. It took me about two years before I actually began to have systems in placed. For the the first two years of my business I was operating without any standard processes. I would onboard a client differently each time, complete a project differently, manage my leads in a variety of ways and this was becoming a problem. Not having any systems was costing my business valuable time and money. Leads were being lost because I was not properly tracking where they were in the sales processes. Not having an actual on boarding system in place was taking away time from working on projects. It took me a while to realize the damage I was costing and how unprofessional I was appearing. But once I began to invest in actual crm system I noticed how much time I was taking back. My CRM system not only automated my processes but allowed me to create workflows that made system.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dai Baker Creative Group LLC was started back in September 2015. Dai Baker Creative Group primary works with service based business providing brand development, marketing, web and graphic design and public relation services. The journey has been quit difficult as the industry is becoming competitive. Everyday there are more marketing agencies launching to compete with. However, today we have been able to stay booked months in advance through referrals and retainer clients. A challenge that the I faced as an agency owner is creating my online. The industry is very niched, which can be hard when you want to specialize in everything. As of today we have niche down to service based businesses in the digital space. This niche has worked very well for us as our calendars our now full months in advance. This is very different from the years we went months with one or no clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Tempe Beach Park is one of my favorite local outdoor places to take a walk outside and enjoy the scenery. I also enjoy going on the paddle boats on the lake. Places we would go eat and hang out in Tempe would be Four Peaks, Culinary Drop Out, El Hefe, and Zipps Bar. I love shopping at Tempe Marketplace and Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall. A trip in Old Town Scottsdale would be needed along with at stop at Hula’s Modern Tiki.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter is biggest supporter and motivation. She will find anyway to bring out my agency in public. She hands out my business cards and always make sure to recommend my services to anyone who says they have any type of business. It is because of her that I started a business. She’s my clients’ favorite tiny human and attends some of my meetings with me. She is my biggest motivation.
