Meet Dan Kapelle | Director & Counselor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Kapelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dan, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Counseling can be tailored to the presenting problem, thus the impact often varies depending on what our clients need most. This past weekend, one of our counselors responded to an early morning phone call from a distressed client. She was subsequently able to provide life saving crisis care for this individual. On the other hand we may be treating debilitating OCD that has held someone hostage for several years. Or maybe it’s the couple who’ve been married for decades seeking greater comfort, care and connection in their marriage after having drifted apart over the course of time. Ultimately, we strive to have a relational impact as we aim to promote peace, healing and resolve in all areas of our client’s lives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Partnership has been and is central to our story and success. As a small business, partnership is part of our DNA. We foster the greatest degree of partnership with our clients as we build therapeutic relationships to help promote their success. In addition, we see value in partnering with other small businesses, regardless if they are in our industry or not. We believe we are serving client’s with an array of different needs, many of which are outside the realm of mental health. If we can refer our clients to other local businesses who will also exceed their expectations, everyone wins! This is our mission, to promote the success of our clients and leverage our partnerships with other businesses to help be a resource for whatever needs, challenges or problems our clients may face.
Getting to where we are today has been a ton of fun, but it has been anything but easy. Being a small business owner/operator is challenging, especially when met with a learning curve. Other people, partnerships and continued education have been key factors in our success to date. We are still learning and growing, but we are grateful for the many accomplishments we’ve been able to achieve with the help of others over the past year.
A lesson I’ve learned over the past year is that other businesses are allies, not competitors. We have no competitors. There is great need in the realm of mental health and an array of gifted providers with a variety of specialties. This realization has increased my desire for community partners. In fact, if you are a small business owner reading this, please give me a call as I’d love to discuss how we can promote your success!
We are here to help and willing to do whatever it takes to aid someone in getting the services they need, even if that’s through one of our many partners. We love seeing people succeed and thrive! We want people to experience their full potential in every area and aspect of life!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question!
I am 100% a BBQ kind of guy. My favorite BBQ in town is Joe’s Real BBQ in downtown Gilbert. I recommend the two meat plate with ribs and sliced brisket with a side of pit beans. I opt for generous amounts of their traditional sauce along with even more of their spicy sauce. You can’t go wrong with a tall glass of Joe’s Root Beer either.
If we’re on the opposite side of town, an evening at V’s Taproom in Peoria on their back patio always serves as a fun getaway.
It may sound childish, but I am unashamedly a fan of Bahama Buck’s as well. It doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold out, shaved ice is always a good option.
I’d also take my best bud to grab some fish tacos at The Social on 83rd in Peoria. They’ve got a great vibe, great food and great live music on occasion.
A little urban hiking in downtown Tempe near ASU and the surrounding area may be in order. The historic neighborhoods and campus are great places to walk and they too have one of a kind food options.
Being a car fan, I’d probably rent something fun and cruise our beautiful freeways as well!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
110%!!! We would not be where we are today without the following (all of which I am beyond grateful for):
1. Life Church Peoria: The staff have a HUGE heart for the mental health needs of their congregation and those of the broader community. Their love and support have been absolutely vital in our success. If you don’t have anything going on this Sunday, they are worth checking out!
2. Vine Life Counseling, LLC: Being new to small business ownership and private practice, Kelly Cassady, LMFT of Vine Life Counseling has been an invaluable friend and mentor. He has shared the ins and outs of his own success as he’s intently walked with us our first year. Kelly continues to selflessly lend his time, talents and resources to help promote our success. Kelly’s practice is full of compassionate and gifted providers, all of which we refer to with confidence!
3. Joey Nichols: Joe has been a personal friend and mentor for the last 15 years. Also a provider in the mental health field, he continually shares insight and wisdom he’s gained over the years. In addition, his friendship continues to inspire me to love and care for others in my life to the best of my ability.
4. Family: My wife, mom and step dad have all been pillars as I’ve journeyed into the world of small business. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their love, affirmation and support. They are also lending their talents to promote our success in any/every way possible. This has been a venture that’s helped grow and unite us as a family.
5: Our Team: I am supported by three other providers, Lisa, Jackie and Daren. These individuals are not only colleagues, but also dear friends. They have all made significant investments in our business and their support has truly been invaluable.
6. Jesus: I’ve not always been a man of faith, but Jesus changed my life in 2011 and I’ve never looked back. Little did I know that going into small business would be more of a faith building exercise than anything. God has continually showed up for us in inexplicable ways that are undeniably Him! I’m confident that we’ve been blessed and provided for so that we may bless and provide for others.
