We had the good fortune of connecting with Dannielli Marcelino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dannielli, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My mother, Luzivone Damaceno, who is a licensed Acupuncturist, started the business in 1988 because of her passion for health and wellness. Back then the business was called Acu Chi Mind and Body Center. My mother introduced her clients to the benefits of acupuncture, massage therapy, cupping therapy, moxa therapy, hypnotherapy and other Eastern medical practices. It didn’t take long for the spa’s offerings to gain popularity and demand. Clientele grew rather quickly which meant adding more staff, more services, and more square footage through the years. Lucky for my mother, she had three daughters and a granddaughter to assist (Dannielli, Jeanie, Jana and niece Saharra). We practically grew up in the spa and have the same desires and interests as our mom–to make health and wellness services available to Valley residents. My sisters, myself and my niece wanted to add something more. We saw the need to add services to enhance clients’ beauty (facial, peel, waxing, laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing, tattoo removal, coolsculpting, Botox, Fillers and more). Channeling our love for looking good and feeling good, my older sister, Dannielli Marcelino went to Aesthetics school and became a licensed Esthetician and Laser Technician, and then later on attended Nursing school and became a Cosmetic Injector, my niece Saharra Marcelino, became a licensed Laser Technician. My sister Jeanie and I (Jana) looked after the administration of the spa (hiring, training, and marketing the spa).
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Jeanie, Dannielli and Jana—all Sun Devil alums—folded up their sleeves and took on key positions in running the family business. Jeanie is now the director of operations; Dannielli is a registered nurse/licensed esthetician and Laser Technician and is the director of esthetics, and Jana is the director of marketing. Now in business for more than 30 years, Suddenly Slimmer Med Spa has expanded and renovated its building on Indian School Road to 12,000 square feet dedicated to health and wellness, and beauty with services like Botox and filler injectables; HydraFacial MD; Vivace Microneedling; Coolsculpting; laser hair removal; C02 Laser skin resurfacing, massage therapies, body wraps and scrubs and many more.
Suddenly Slimmer Day and Med Spa endeavors to stay on top of the beauty industry game by exploring these new technologies constantly and making them available to their faithful clients and to their new ones.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Start with a hike at Phoenix Mountains Preserve on 32nd Street & Lincoln
Then breakfast at La Grande Orange Grocery
Lunch at Hillstone Restaurant on Camelback
Shopping at Biltmore Fashion Park
Cockatiels at the MercBar (mercbaraz.com)
Then hit the nightclubs in Old Town Scottsdale
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, Luzivone Damaceno she is definitely the brains behind the business and we wouldn’t be where we are today without her vision, dedication and passion for the wellness, health and beauty industry.
