We had the good fortune of connecting with Delanie Christensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Delanie, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Ever since I was young I had major insecurities about how pale I was. I was made fun of by friends and family members jokingly, but I took it to heart. I researched different ways to get yourself tan, and I discovered spray tans. I bought my first machine and all the supplies and started spray tanning myself. I then thought, I could do this as a business. I went through training and got recognized by the National Spray Tan Association. For the first two years of my business, I strictly only did tans. I fell in love with the beauty industry, and I wanted to do more, so I enrolled in esthetics school my senior year of high school. I went through esthetician school and started providing other services, such as, lashes, facials and waxing!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Most esthetician’s start their careers after high school, I started my business when I was 15 and finished by esthetics education at 18. Being that I am so young, I had to manage high school, my social life, and my business. Although that is a big amount of responsibility, I loved what I was doing. I have to work around a busy school schedule to still fit 15+ clients in a week. At times, I get very frustrated with how busy I am, but my clients make it all worth it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I live in the city of Gilbert in Arizona, I would have to take my friend to downtown gilbert. So many fun places to eat at and people watch. If it was summer, I would bring them to Saguaro Lake to go cliff jump and hang with friends.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While in esthetics school, I had such an inspiring teacher, Ms. Jaime Park. She tought my classmates and I so much about how to be a successful esthetician. She was always so kind and you really could get great advice from her. She definitely made the year long course fun and educational.
