We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Vanessa Dean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Vanessa, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe building strong relationships with my patients is a large part of my success. My role as physician in my patient’s lives is important to me and I do not take the responsibility lightly. The relationship between doctor and patient is unique in that private physical health and mental health concerns are discussed. I know building a strong foundation of support and trust between us is crucial to their health and wellness long term. The better I know my patient, their tendencies and their outlook on life, the better I can tailor their treatment and care. One size does not fit all in medicine, and patients are looking for someone who truly listens to their unique needs and preferences. Building a relationship with my patients allow for more open communication and trust between us, yielding better care and health outcomes. My medical practice is built on relationships and trust shared between myself and my patients and I attribute much of my sucess to this.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I recently opened private practice in Scottsdale Arizona called Infinite Wellness Hormone Specialists. I specialize in hormone replacement therapy, specifically bio-identical hormone pellet therapy and have helped thousands of patients restore hormone balance and feel like themselves again. I help men and women restore hormone balance through targeted bio-identical hormone replacement therapy as well as targeted treatments for weight loss and thyroid management. I find this work incredibly rewarding and enjoy every day in the office with my wonderful patients.
At the moment, I am most proud of “betting on myself” and opening private practice by the age of 30. It takes guts and grit, which I am surprised to find out I have in great supply. Anyone who has started their own business knows that it is a leap of faith and there are no guarantees of success. I have had great support and a surprising sense of calm, because I know that no matter what I can count on myself to put in the work to succeed. I work hard in all things I do, so I know I won’t “fail.” Diamonds are developed under pressure, and I believe the greatest growth comes from the toughest challenges we put ourselves through. I have learned through this experience that I can truly do anything I set my mind to.
I treat my patients with the same sense of tenacity, and I know they can feel my commitment to them. I am incredibly proud of the depth of relationship and trust I’ve built with my patients and find this the most rewarding part of the work I do. I’ve learned in my career that this connection between doctor and patient is crucial to better outcomes for their health. Most of my patients are older than I am, which was a surprising challenge at the beginning of my career when I graduated medical school at age 25. I have gained the respect and trust of my patients despite my age due to my professionalism, expertise and understanding the importance of real human connection between both parties.
Infinite Wellness Hormone Specialists is unique in that we provide the most cutting-edge and industry leading hormone replacement therapy. Patients feel at home in our office – we treat every patient like family and are committed to giving them the best care and service. I pride myself on being accessible to my patients and often times am the once calling them or answering the phones. We never want to get away from the importance of building strong relationships with the patient we serve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love living in Scottsdale and feel incredibly lucky that there is so much to do here. I grew up in the cold (I am from Upstate NY) and am grateful to wake up every day here in AZ with beautiful weather. Some of my favorite food spots are TrueFood for a heathy bite or Buck and Rider in Phoenix for Oysters and Seafood. I love grabbing a drink with my fiance at the W Hotel rooftop bar in downtown Scottsdale. I would never miss Barrett Jackson every year and like to go to the local car shows on the weekends down at the Scottsdale Pavillions. I love going to the Desert Botanical Gardens and seeing the art and sculptures scattered around the natural plants and beautiful landscaping.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have leaned on friends and family who have skills outside of my expertise and followed their advice. My fiancé, Dominic Mack has an outstanding entrepreneurial spirit and has guided me to “bet on” myself and start my own business. Without his constant guidance and support, I likely would not have opened my own private practice. The support of my family is overwhelming, and they are my biggest cheerleaders. I have great mentors with many different skillsets and expertise, and I attribute a lot of my success to listening to their advice and putting it into action. Dr. Meghna Thacker, Dr. Leila Turner, Dr. Christine Sorenson, Dr. Katrina Stage and Dr. Stephanie Seitz have been great mentors throughout my medical training who have shaped how I care for patients. Scott and Michele Neal and Michele Samuels and my father, Paul Dean have been great business mentors for me and continue to support my lifelong education as an entrepreneur and business owner. The greatest asset is someone who knows more than you do and is willing to impart their wisdom – you just have to listen!
