We had the good fortune of connecting with Dusty Travis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dusty, how does your business help the community?
Simply put, we help our community by providing honest and affordable HVAC work. That may be an oversimplified answer, but our goal is to help our customers from the perspective of homeowners, since we have all been on the other side of an expensive repair. Basically, we work hard to apply the Golden Rule to our interactions with customers and try to treat them as we want to be treated. We tell our field techs to work as “servicemen, not salesmen”, and truly serve our community. You may not think that being an HVAC company is an altruistic endeavor, but it has provided many jobs for health-compromised people and businesses that need temperate surroundings to survive, highlighting the importance of this business to the community at large.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We have been incredibly blessed to have good customers who refer us to their friends and family, and this has helped us grow and survive in a crowded market. But we still face the challenge of getting in front of people, and more importantly, having them remember us when their AC breaks down. This, of course, is the oldest challenge of any service-based business that interfaces with the public. So, our biggest challenge is acquiring customers.

The best lesson I’ve learned about starting a business is to be patient and not to measure your success against known entities. Take a step back and revel in the little victories that happen, and just enjoy the ride!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone visited for a week, I would do everything possible to show them all the different landscapes here in AZ. A trip to the Grand Canyon, then to Bisbee through Tombstone to see the Wild West. We would go to Haus Murphy’s in downtown Glendale and Mi Patio for Mexican food in Midtown. We would also check out the Music Instrument Museum and Romanelli’s for the best sandwiches in Phoenix.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to a man who has inspired and helped me so much: Andy Unkefer. Andy hired me to work for him with no experience, trained me, and allowed me to grow as the business did. He was extremely gracious to me and my family, and I hope that I can be as good a leader and businessman as he is.
