We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Louise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I don’t believe we are designed to endure the traditional forty-hour work week, like as a species. We are, however, natural Creators. Each day, as we navigate our respective experiences, we are making something out of nothing. Countless thoughts, feelings, and connections that did not previously exist are effortlessly given life through our every interaction. I am pursuing an artistic career because I want to honor my sovereignty. If I am constantly, effortlessly creating my reality regardless of external influences, why not do it for a living?
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
While I clearly have a particular style, I am very interested in trying new techniques. I especially enjoy analogue illustration; I’ve had a few clients request black and white coloring pages and sold several framed original pieces. While I’m not currently teaching group painting classes given current events, I am proud of my continued creative growth. I’m excited to be working with a few different printers to get stickers, prints, and other merch available soon, and I’m expecting to have at least one coloring book available for purchase before this time next year! When it comes to my artistic career, the biggest challenges I face are related to time management. I’m diligent about deadlines when they exist, but when creating new art just for myself, I tend to get really into a concept, then run out of steam before finishing the project. The enormity of my to-be-continued pile is no joke, but I choose to enjoy the unique opportunity to regularly revisit older works and see firsthand how my artistic inspiration and style is developing over time. It feels more important now than ever to focus on loving and healing ourselves, forgiving our shortcomings and focusing on our strengths. I hope my art inspires that mindset in others.
