We had the good fortune of connecting with Feana Hodges and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Feana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To be perfectly honest my entire career has been a risk. If you do not jump you will not fall or fail. In all reality taking a risk is how you learn.
My first risk was my fist go- see experience. I went to Chicago with no money to seek an agency. I took a train ride, slept in the train station and met with ford models along with a few other agents. I did not get picked and I was under prepared. But I learned and I have grown from the experience. I promised myself I will not share the photo of me in the train station until I make it where I truly want to be.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My brand is called Candii- Rush @candii_rush
It all started when I audioned for angel brinks in California. It was a fashion show audition. I am a huge fan of her designs and she is all about the “ Bling”
I designed a bra by hand with rhinestones. Even though it did not grab Angel Brinks attention many models were asking me about my bra. One model tried to buy it.
After the audition my fiancé mentioned he heard other girls complimenting my bra. I came up with a name and created a candy menu to represent my designs.
The designing part was the easy route. Marketing and branding is the most difficult thing I am figuring out.
I am truthfully still learning, but if I could do it over I would have hired a marketing team.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My choice of fun is a great work out and a bite to eat!
I was introduced to bikram yoga years ago. I absolutely love the foundary Yoga studio in Tempe. I have never met such great instructors.
My favorite go to spots are
Joy ride- The best tacos ever! Especially the fried fish taco. Let’s not ignore the perfect Margarita’s. Taco Tuesday is where it’s at. $2- $4 tacos and $5 margaritas.
Culinary Drop out- I have not tried anything bad! The menu is 🔥. The setting is super cute and a bit romantic
Speedy taco- a great spot after your flight. Clearly I’m obsessed with tacos. They are a hole in the wall but the best tacos of your life. Most importantly they are 24 hrs.
Ocean 44: very upscale, high and expensive food items. My party of 4 had a $500 bill. However I plan to go back. The service was a 20, they treat you like paradise. The setting is beautiful and you want to look as good as the restaurant.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I can I would love to shout-out four people. God, my mother, My Fiancé and Naima Mora.
My mom is my backbone she has taught me to not give up, stand up tall and earn the respect I deserve.
Without the spirit of prayer I would not be here. God has held my life together when I had no control.
My fiancé has been a constant positive inspiration. Sometimes I feel he believes in me more than myself.
To Naima Mora, thank you! Before I started her program, I told her I was done with modeling and wanted to quit. She said one thing, “ Take my Model know How program and tell me if you want to quit after.
A year later my work has advanced, I have gained many self bookings and I am now signed with Priority Talent in Arizona!
