We had the good fortune of connecting with Febe & Jorne Bouckaert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Febe & Jorne, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We travel quite a lot and family and friends often asked us how we actually pay for it. They told us that they don’t know how to plan a trip and that they do not have enough money for it. But you don’t need a lot of money to travel and it’s so much cheaper when you plan your own trips instead of relying on an agency. So we decided to start a travel website that tells you how to plan your future trips and how you can afford them. We provide extensive itineraries, how much it cost us, how do to a specific hike, etc.

We know that there are a lot of travel blogs and websites already, but most of them are written in English and not everybody from Belgium is multilingual, so we wanted to make the information as accessible as possible.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I try to convert the landscape and the accompanying feeling into one image. That’s not always easy, but it really gives me adrenaline when I succeed! Those few minutes in which you can photograph the northern lights. The ephemeral golden hour. A breaching whale who’s gone after 1 second. When you miss those moments, you don’t know when you’ll get another chance. And that’s what it’s about. It’s not work, it’s something that makes me genuinely happy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not sure if I understand correctly, so I interpret that this is about where I live?

We live in Belgium, it’s not big. It’s even smaller than almost any state in the US! It’s not my favorite place in the world. Nature is pretty boring here. So we travel to appreciate and be impressed by nature. But, there’s actually a lot to see and experience here in Belgium! We have some incredibly beautiful medieval buildings. It’s just crazy to think people lived here so many years ago as well. Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, Brussels, Ypres, … there are so many cities where you can find buildings that are more than 1300 years old and are still used!

And we haven’t even talked about the food yet. The food in Belgium, oh my god. We’ve travelled for a year in 2022 and I missed Belgian food so much! You have to try mussels & fries, stoofvlees, vol au vent, waffels, witte pens, balletjes in tomatensaus, … You could eat 3 meals everyday for a week and you’d still haven’t tried all the dishes in Belgium.\

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There isn’t really anyone specific, but as a teenager I was really inspired by different Instagrammers who are into travel photography. Many people have bad opinions about Instagrammers and influencers and there are certainly people who take advantage of businesses, but I can assure you that a lot of them are hard workers and it’s not an easy business! Without them I would never have picked up my camera again and our website would be non existent.
