We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary Lipsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gary, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was a young kid, I learned early on that I couldn’t work for anyone else because I get bored easily. I want to play a large role in whatever I get involved in. This doesn’t mean I don’t need a great team to support my vision, I do. It is incredibly important to have that passion in whatever you get involved in but you also need to provide a valuable service to others. Real estate development combines my creative and business side and also provides great investment opportunities to my friends and family who otherwise would be stuck investing only in the stock market that has wild fluctuations. I offer a chance for a more diversified portfolio with great risk adjusted returns.

What should our readers know about your business?
At the end of 2016, I started Break of Day Capital to provide passive real estate opportunities for busy professionals. I had been investing in real estate prior to that but now I was ready to dedicate all of my energies towards this new venture. We focus on acquiring value-add multifamily properties in the Phoenix and Tucson markets. Our goal is to positively impact the lives of our investors and the communities in which we invest in through the highest level of transparency and fiduciary responsibility. What sets us apart is our vision to see value where others do not. We’ve bought student housing and office space that we’ve converted to multifamily and created a ton of profits for our investors. Each property is like a business and I’ve had a ton of experience running businesses since I was a child. Not every business was successful but you learn the good and the bad along the way. Those trials and tribulations make you a better decision maker, a better navigator through tough times. I’ve always been a no stone left unturned kind of guy. That’s how we run this business. We are going to underwrite hundreds of deals to find the one deal we love and when we get that deal we’re going to work tirelessly to maximize the opportunity for our investors that trust us with their hard earned money. it’s a huge responsibility and one we don’t take lightly.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the outdoors so I would take a friend to hike Camelback in the morning. Maybe go to Prep and Pastry for a hearty breakfast afterwards. After taking care of some work, grab a happy hour drink at The Porch before heading to Dominick’s Steakhouse or see a concert at Ak-Chin Pavillion. I’m a sucker for live music outside.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The love and support of my parents, who let me try things and find my way, played a huge role in my success. They didn’t push a path on me and instead let me create my own path. I also had plenty of friends that played a role. Friends like Warren V, Richard A, Jeff S. that I was able to bounce ideas off of and get their input.
