We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Paul and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Every venture that I started was inspired by the need for change in the food, entertainment and education industries.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started 5 Carrots in 2012 on a mission to support organic vegan brands as well as event producers, movie sets, festivals, non profits etc. Since I already had a background in marketing and promotions, starting my own venture was easy. I’m a gifted networker and natural connector. So all I had to do was find the brands that I loved and plug them into the events and movie sets that I was already a part of. The only challege I had was that I was ahead of everyone else. I was the only person pushing healthy, organic vegan products on movie sets. I had to be patient and keep going until everyone else caught up. Finally today there are more vegans and people committed to health. 5 Carrots has integrity and seeks out brands that in addition to having the highest quality ingredients, but also has a great supply chain story, a give-back model, eco-friendly business practices etc. 5 Carrots goes the extra mile to uncover the truth so that we can confidently share the stories we find.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is full of amazing hiking trails, great restaurants, and beautiful spots to meditate, have fun, and explore. Since I only eat organic and vegan, I would take my friend to the best restaurants like Sage Bistro, Cafe Gratitude, Gracias Madre, H.O.P.E cafe and JOI. There are some great swimming spots like the Malibu Creek Rock Pools and of course lots of beaches to choose from. I’m a hot springs junkie, so we would go up to Ojai and Montecido for the hot springs there. The self-realziation temple in Pacific Palisades is gorgeous and there are endless hiking trails to explore. Some have waterfalls, others have giant boulders. If the timing is right, we might be able to go see Jeff Goldblum and his Jazz band, which is a pastime favorite of mine. And one of my favorite adventures is the Ecstatic dance on Venice Beach on Sundays.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well my first move towards my dreams came after reading the book, The Celestine Prophecy, by James Redfield in 1996. Shortly after that, I decided to follow the signs that were leading me to leave my hometown in PA. I never looked back and have always kept following those signs. Later I realized that I was following my heart, not just signs.
