We had the good fortune of connecting with Ginny St. Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ginny, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It really chose me. I used to paint years ago, and got out of it as I focused more of my creative energy towards growing my ecommerce business. When COVID hit my mental health took a bit of a dive with transitioning the company to WFH, and I desperately needed to reconnect with my creative self. Naturally, I picked back up a paint brush and started painting again which provided a breath of fresh air for me mentally, emotionally, and creatively.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets my art apart is intentionality. I begin every painting with positive and uplifting words that I write on the canvas. Sounds a little woo woo, but I’m really big on intentionality with my work.

Beyond just titling a work, I place provoking questions, or words of encouragement on the backs of all my canvases. All of my works are originals, and I really enjoy that connection/conversation with my viewers and collectors.

Professionally, I just decided to put myself and my art out there even though it was a little bit intimidating at first. You have to start somewhere, and for me that place was at first a bit of a low point. I was craving some sort of stability through COVID, and leaned into painting as a way to cope with everything that was going on in my business, and in the world.

I think the biggest take away in what I’ve learned along the way is to just continue to put yourself out there. I’ve met some really incredible people through my art, and it’s been a really special journey. Had I been scared to put my work into the world, I would have missed out on so many beautiful experiences and connections.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to some local trails for a nice hike, and follow that up with grabbing some kombucha at a local spot.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Stacey for always supporting my artistic endeavors. She’s there to help me set up every show, and is my constant rock I can always lean on. I wouldn’t have had the success I’ve had artistically without her.
