We had the good fortune of connecting with Guillermo Malvido and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Guillermo, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I am a big believer that our daily habits accumulate as the recipe for success. My biggest keys for success have been repetition, consistency, care and a willingness to learn from others. Always staying curious!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the proud owner of a local events & entertainment company established in 2005 called Drop Top Entertainment Productions LLC. We are a one-stop solution for event services for everything from some of the best DJs in town, to photo booth and 360 slow motion video booths, sound, lighting, a star-lit dance floor, and a brand-new 15ftx7ft video wall rental and services. We have just about everything to bring the party!

Running a business is definitely not easy and I think anyone who runs a business would have the sane answer. It’s simply not a typical 9am-5pm where you clock in and clock out and your day is over. In order to keep the wheels of the business turning, small business owners are working day and night, putting in long hours and it truly takes every ounce of time and energy to to run a successful business. No such thing as part time! It has been a long steady road of growth through care, consistency, hard work, dedication and the love/support from my wife and family.

When COVID hit and events came to a complete halt, it was super hard on me. Overnight, things went dry. It was something nobody could have planned for, but no events meant no revenue. I was adamant about staying innovative and immediately began researching and implementing some of the best live streaming technology I could find and began offering live streaming services to corporations. I am fortunate that this opened up a whole new door for me, but also a whole new audience. Corporate live streaming has rolled over into corporate live events.

The greatest lesson I’ve learned over the years is to keep pushing forward no matter what. There are many challenges with running a small business and will continue to face more challenges in the coming years! The key is to always learn from successes and well as your failures and push through challenges. Surround yourself with great mentors and successful business owners. Greatness comes from greatness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Phoenix has such a diverse culture, and I love everything about it. Most of my family is here so any time friends are visiting you know there is going to be a party! We love gathering at one of our houses with all the kiddos running around, music playing, hugs everywhere, one of those “everyone is invited” types of parties. We live in North Phoenix so I would make sure to show them Lake Pleasant and take a day trip up to Flagstaff for a change of scenery (because no one ever believes that it can snow 2 hours away from Phoenix!) I also run an online radio station called R&B City so I would make sure to have them on as a guest on the show just for fun! There are tons of amazing Mexican restaurants in town and we would end the night at one of the bars where I DJ like Murphy’s Law in Chandler.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a few people who absolutely deserve shoutouts that help to encourage me to keep grinding. First and foremost my wife LaShawn Malvido. She is also a business owner, running Inspirations Hair Design. She provides tremendous support and keeps me grounded and sane. My parents Lucila and Jose Luis Malvido for instilling the importance of hard work and dedication since I was a child. My Father in Law who is a great inspiration & business owner of Wine Cellar Experts, Rick Benson. He also raised my beautiful wife and for that I am most thankful! Lastly my BNI Networking Group, The Connectors, who are a group of top notch successful business owners/professionals. I am so inspired by their stories, triumphs, and willingness to raise all of us up together. They are so dedicated to our community!
