We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Kirchhofer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, how have you been keeping yourself busy during quarantine?
In the beginning of all of this, I felt so helpless and wanted to do something to give back and help. I know it’s controversial, but I started shooting porch portraits. In return for their portrait, I asked the subjects to donate to a critical needs charity. So far, we’ve raised over $2000 for charities such as Tempe Community Action Agency, United Food Bank, and more.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a professional photographer. I specialize in portrait work (families, individuals, etc) as well as brand imagery (headshots, product imagery, company profiles, etc). On the branding side, I love that I get to help businesses promote their passions. There are so many amazing small businesses out there that need to known by the masses. I am passionate about helping them build their audience with beautiful, personalized imagery. For the family/portrait side of my work, I am obsessed with helping families build heirlooms to be pasted down from generation to generation. Telling a story of a family, knowing that these images may some day be looked at my their grandchildren and great-grandchildren makes my heart so full. One of my favorite things to do when gathered with my own family is too look at old family photos and tell stories.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Actually, my best friend is planning a visit for next year and we are already discussing all the things we want to do! There is definitely not a shortage of amazing restaurants to choose from. One of my favorites is Cibo. Their pizza is incredible. I love sitting on their beautiful patio. I love going to Singh Meadows on the weekend to enjoy their delicious food. They have amazing produce and the most gorgeous, giant grassy area to lounge and let the kids run around.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tempe Community Action Agency! They are doing so much good to help our local community now during this crisis and well before. They help foster dignity and self-reliance in the economically vulnerable within our communities.
