We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ian, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has changed tremendously through the last 4 years I have been tattooing. In the beginning stages of my tattooing I was at the shop constantly. I believe that there is growth within discipline and consistency. So I would gain tons of experience putting in long hours as an apprentice and as a new young Tattooer. Now I have 2 young children that I have the pleasure of raise alongside my wonderful wife Christin Day. I try to tattoo 5 days a week one tattoo a day. So I can be a positive role model for my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m able to offer my clients a deep sincere sense of empathy when it comes to real life experiences. I have gone through a lot with alcohol and drugs and for the past 4 years now have been on the other side of a battle that was outside of my control. I am excited everyday to wake up and do what I love to do. I get to know so many amazing people in and out of the tattoo industry. I have learned so many lessons along the way. I have learned that family is number 1. That balance is important in life. That others needs should come first so that I can live a life free from bondage of self. I have learned that Service to my community is an important part of my growth in life. The list could go on and on. I want everyone to know that it’s ok to not feel ok sometimes and there will be times when you feel like throwing in the towel. My suggestion is to find someone that can give you there experience and lift you up in those moments we all go through hard times and no one here on earth is perfect let’s have mercy on one another and know that progress is what’s important not perfection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably start by introducing them to my family. We could go to the lake to check out the amazing summer atmosphere that it has to offer as well as south mountain at the top of the mountain there is a gorgeous view. I am on the west side of Phoenix so we would probably go out for breakfast at Ronnie’s cafe on 43rd Ave and cactus it has the best food in the valley. Maybe offer to take a drive up to Sedona as well I have found some of my most peaceful moments in Sedona at the chapel up there maybe take a helicopter ride around the town. Plus the people in Sedona are amazing very interesting to say the least. Maybe also catch a sporting event while they are in town as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people and places that I could list that have inspired me throughout my journey. I would love to give all the Glory to my creator though without God in my life none of this life that I get to live today would be possible. I am a member of an anonymous program that literally saved my life. It was able to show me in fine detail how a man should live for his family. I finally was able to get out of my way and was gifted a fantastic live as the result.
