We had the good fortune of connecting with Pravneet And Hurshneet Chadha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pravneet And Hurshneet, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Kindness is the most important factor behind our success because it makes the world a better place. Our project is based on simple acts of kindness that anyone, anywhere can do, at anytime and be a smile maker 🙂
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step! We had our ‘AHA’ moment when me and my family were discussing visitor restrictions to coid patients during pandemic lockdown. We realized that we were feeling lonely being at home, not being able to go to school and see friends but how lonely would be patients who were in the hospital with COVID infection and no one to share their fears and feelings with. We soon started penning down positive thoughts and encouraging messages and reached out to friends who wanted to also make a difference and found what we were doing ‘simple and easy’ and in a nutshell ‘doable by anyone’. Project Smile AZ is now a 501c(3) and our goal is to bring smile to all A2Z. We serve more than 10 UN SDG (sustainable development goals) by positively affecting mental health, food drive, book drive, education by peer tutoring and reducing carbon footprint by reducing, reusing and recycling. We promote Equity by sharing our kits with children at foster care, children with disabilities and refugees. Each kit allows the child receiving to be a smile maker and cards made using the kits are shared to others in need. It’s a win-win! Our youngest smile makers are preschool children and oldest in their 90s.We believe in he for she movement and support and partner with minority led organizations. We have partnered and served with people across the world and our goal is to make everyone a ‘smile maker’. In just over a year and half, we are at a good start with:
*Shared close to 10000 motivational messages to those in need during COVID-19
*Thousands of gently used books shared to youth in need
*Hundreds of food bags for homeless and low income families
*Smile art kits for children with disabilities, those in foster care and Refugees
*Smile Dental hygiene kits for teenagers in low income groups.
*500 plus smile makers around the world working thousands of hours to make this world better
*Partnered with multiple organizations across the world to share smile
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I would show them how to made cards for our project and I’d take them to the Grand Canyon. We’d probably eat at small businesses in Peoria since it is always nice to eat at and support local community members (Peoria has some darn good food).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to thank each and every person that has joined Project Smile AZ as a volunteer, or by liking and encouraging us on social media as well as by their donations. We couldn’t have done it alone! We want to spend a special thank you to our board members (Manpreet Chadha [our mom!], Dr. Jasmeet Singh, and Ms. Miyoung Sweet) for their constant encouragement and support for our non-for-profit.
